Well, this is new because today I have a review of one of my favorite hair styling products to share with you! :) It is the Phomollient Styling Foam from Aveda. I was first introduced to the product when I went to a salon last time to get my hair cut and curled, and wow, what a difference did it make! From flat and straight hair to voluminous and bouncy curls. I was so impressed I had to bring one home with me. :D
It is basically a lightweight liquid styling foam for fine or medium hair that comes in a pump bottle that once you pump, it foams up the product into something mousse-like. The formula features natural ingredients including certified-organic honey to add shine and hold and burdock and marshmallow root extracts to strengthen hair roots and add volume. It has a signature Aveda herbal scent smell that is quite strong and I have a feeling some people may not like it but I personally find it kind of soothing. The scent does linger all day and well into the second day for me so if you are really sensitive to scent, definitely take a sniff test first (or basically just walk into any Aveda store!).
It is formulated to create weightless volume, build body, detangle, add shine, and hold curls but I find it to help reduce frizz as well. For my shoulder length hair, I typically use 2-3 pumps when my hair is halfway dry. I rub the product between my hands and apply deliberately near the roots for added lift or along the hair strands to add volume and then blow dry completely.
I usually use it before I curl my hair and I find that it makes my curls look fuller and more defined. It also adds subtle shine without weighing my hair down or leaving any crunchy or sticky feeling. My hair (curls) still feels really soft to the touch and I can still run my fingers or brush through.
It also gives great hold as my curls seem to stay in place all day (it isn't resistant to humidity, though). On the second day my hair still has its curls somewhat although I'd say it turns into more of a messy, bed head style with the ends feeling just slightly dry and brittle especially if I use too much on the first day. It hasn't caused me any breakouts (a lot of hair styling products do) so far (2 weeks) which is good news and I hope it will never! :)
They make a travel size of this too, great for on the go, or if you just want to try it first before purchasing full size. They also sell refills (without a pump) which I believe is a dollar cheaper.
What's your go-to hair styling product? What do you use to keep your hair curled and voluptuous? :)
