Liebster Award + Get to Know Me

I've been blogging for about 7 months now and besides my makeup reviews and product photos, I've never really given out much information about myself. Last week Almu of feelbella.com left a comment on one of my posts saying that she nominated my blog for the infamous Liebster Award! For the next second I was dumbfounded — Liebster Award?! What's the Liebster Award?!

The funny thing about the Liebster Award is, no one really knows its origin. There is no official website. There is no official award. And I don't even know who decides who gets the award! From what I gather, someone somewhere started it and now it's become sort of a “blogging chain”‘ thing that once you nominate someone, it is up to them whether they'd like to participate. To participate, there are rules to follow. The biggest rule that I feel a little uncomfortable with is, at the end you have to nominate other people, too. Not that I mind nominating anyone, but what if that person doesn't feel comfortable participating? Awkward on both parts.

As for me, I am more than glad to participate so thanks again Almu for including me! If anything, I think it is fun for me to list a few facts about myself and for you to get to know me a little. :)

So here we go.

The rules

So here's what you have to do once you have been nominated:

  1. Mention the person who nominated you.
  2. List 11 random facts about yourself and answer 11 questions asked by the nominator.
  3. Create a new set of 11 questions and nominate 11 other bloggers who should have less than 200 followers.

Why 11? No idea. Under 200 followers based on what social network? Wish I knew. LOL!

11 Random facts about myself

  1. Thai food is my favorite!
  2. My first blog was created back in 2002 and it wasn't beauty-related.
  3. My favorite ice cream is Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie.
  4. I am scared of the dark but I love scary/horror movies!
  5. I am very quiet (but not shy) around people I don't know.
  6. Besides makeup, I hoard colored pens!
A small part of my pen collection....

A small part of my pen collection….

  7. I play pool and have my own pool stick.
  8. I dyed my hair light blonde once (ugh, never again!).
  9. I have a girl crush on Scarlett Johansson.
  10. I use a Windows PC and laptop, an Android phone, and an Apple iPad (I'm never loyal to any one brand/platform!).
  11. Macro photography is my passion. :)

Answers to Almu's questions

  1. What was your first MAC product?
    Shy Girl lipstick!
  2. What is your favorite blush of all time?
Oh.. tough one. My pick would have to be Tom Ford Flush.
  3. Name a beauty product you can't live without.
Lip balm. Can't stand the feeling of dry/parched lips!
  4. What is your favorite drugstore brand?
Maybelline. They have been coming out with lots and lots of awesome products lately.
  5. How many languages can you speak?
    Two. Thai and English.
  6. What is your favorite Disney movie?
    The Incredibles!
  7. What’s your favorite dessert?
Fried bananas with ice cream. Yum!
  8. What’s your favorite month of the year?
December! Lots of sales. Lots of deals. Lots of awesome makeup kits/sets! And people seem to be in a better mood in general. Not to mention I get 10 days off work!
  9. Romantic movies or horror movies?
    Horror, always!
  10. What’s your favorite high end make up brand?
Oh this is a hard question. I'd have to go with Hourglass. :)
  11. What is your favorite red nail polish?
I rarely wear red nail polish so I really don't have a favorite!

My questions for the nominees

  1. What's your favorite facial feature?
  2. What's your favorite vacation spot?
  3. What would be your dream job?
  4. Crazy night out or cozy at home?
  5. What's your favorite eyeshadow palette of all time?
  6. What's your go-to liquid foundation?
  7. Explain yourself in 3 words.
  8. How many countries have you visited?
  9. Do you play any musical instruments?
  10. What would be your superpower if you could have one?
  11. Are you a Windows, Mac, or Android person? ;)

And I'd like to nominate….

  1. Kristen of Glambunctious.com!
  2. Aimee of Aimeedoes.com!
  3. Erin of Clevergirlreviews.com!
  4. Amanda of Amandarobots.com!

I'm sorry I can't come up with 11 blogs (with less than 200 followers)! But I'd really like to break the rules and nominate a few people who have been my regular readers and who I appreciate their readership and comments dearly. :)

  1. Sunny of Mostlysunnyblog.com!
  2. Hoku of twitter.com/Hokumakaa!
  3. Laura Brum of twitter.com/Brummingbird!
  4. Rachelle of twitter.com/Itzrachelle!

And if you are…

  1. Nicole
  2. Ellen
  3. Carolyn
  4. Ploi

I'd like to see you participate, too! :) (I only have 1 Nicole, 1 Ellen, 1 Carolyn, and 1 Ploi commenter, so if you have commented before you know who you are ♥!)

Well, that was fun! I hope you like this random post filled with useless information about me, haha! If you are a random bypasser, feel free to join in as well! :)

Thank you once again, Almu!

  • Rachelle says:

Yay that’s me again! I created a blog as per your suggestion Jaa but it kinda sucks because it only has one post…. LOL

So should I also post it on my “blog”? But I have absolutely 0 people to nominate hahaha.

  • Hoku says:

I’ve been waiting for this post all day! And there it is…I see my name!!!! Yay!

  • Erin says:

    WOW, thanks Jaa!

    • Jaa says:

Got your email, Erin! Thank you so much! But the rule (that I forgot to mention) is you can’t nominate the person who nominated you! LOL! But whatever, right? Rules are meant to be broken so I’ll answer to your list of questions ASAP! ;)

  • Sunny says:

OOO thanks, Jaa! I totally used to hoard colored pens when I was in high school! Didn’t know you play pool! Having your own stick sounds so professional ;)

    • Jaa says:

Hehe.. and it’s pink, too! I haven’t played it for a long time, though. And I don’t remember where I keep it, lol!

  • Carolyn says:

Hi Jaa, I was so pleasantly surprised/shocked to see my name nominated! Thanks so much, you are very kind :). It was fun reading through your list of 11 facts — I also love Thai food, and I’m also quiet with people I don’t know. Also, I’ve become quite a chocolate fan in the last year or so (more so than I used to be), so that Ben & Jerry’s ice cream sounds delicious! I’ll have to try it! (My usual favorite Ben & Jerry’s flavor is Cherry Garcia — have you tried that one before?)

I don’t have a blog of my own, so I guess I will share my answers here. Thanks again for nominating me, Jaa!! So glad that Temptalia/Christine linked to your blog — that’s how I got to start reading your blog! Your reviews are so helpful and so detailed, and I feel like I can really trust your reviews.

    Here’s my list:

What’s your favorite facial feature? Smile

What’s your favorite vacation spot? I would say Hawaii or Italy — I can’t get enough of Italy, but if I were to pick the most relaxing place, I’d say Hawaii! My husband and I actually love Hawaii so much that we got married on Hawaii last year :).

What would be your dream job? Travel/food writer — travel and see the world while trying out every cuisine possible!

Crazy night out or cozy at home? Cozy at home — I’m such a homebody…I’ll always, always choose a night at home rather than a crazy night! I’m a true introvert and crazy nights out drain me a bit, to be honest!

What’s your favorite eyeshadow palette of all time? I actually don’t have many eyeshadow palettes — all my eyeshadow palettes are from the Urban Decay Naked line! (I have a lot of single eyeshadows.)

What’s your go-to liquid foundation? NARS Sheer Glow — amazingly, this doesn’t make my oily skin oilier, and I love the texture/feel on the skin. Also, I absolutely love that NARS has great foundation & tinted moisturizer shades for Asian skin!! I’m NC30 and have found NARS Punjab and NARS Alaska (in their tinted moisturizer line) perfect matches.

Explain yourself in 3 words. Caring, sensitive, worrywart

How many countries have you visited? 12

Do you play any musical instruments? I played the piano for 10 years when I was younger — my parents forced me to play, and I hated it! I ended up quitting and even though I was warned that I’d regret my decision, I’ve never regretted it. It just wasn’t for me :).

What would be your superpower if you could have one? To keep my loved ones safe and happy — I know it sounds cheesy, but I do worry about the safety or well-being of my loved ones a fair amount, so I’d love to have this superpower!

Are you a Windows, Mac, or Android person? ;) Definitely a Mac person! I recently had to switch to a Windows laptop at work after having used a Mac for so long, and I’m still getting used to it. I also am a big iOS person with my iPhone and iPad.

Thanks again Jaa, this list was quite enjoyable to fill out!!

    • Jaa says:

I tried Cherry Garcia! Very good, too, but nothing beats the Chocolate Fudge Brownie for me! Haha.

I am so glad you found my site. I think most of my visitors come from Temptalia so I’m definitely thankful to be featured on her Sunday’s Link Love. :D

And omg Congratulations on your wedding!! Sorry I’m a year late, haha. I wish you had a blog so that you could post some beautiful photos of the event! I love stuff like that, lol. Wedding is full of happiness and I love the energy of it. :)

I heard SO SO much about the Nars Sheer Glow. I think it’s one of the more popular foundation in Thailand but I have yet to try! You think Punjab would be a good match? I’m NC30, too.

I’d definitely want the same superpower, too. Having lost so many loved ones myself, I never wish to ever have to go through it ever again but I know it will happen again sooner or later so to be able to keep them safe would be the greatest superpower of all. :)

Thank you so much for participating, Carolyn! It was so much fun learning more about you. I’m so glad you found me and I hope you will continue to be my awesome reader! :)

    • Carolyn says:

Hi Jaa! I hope you had a good weekend! :) Sorry for being a bit late in my reply!! Aw, thank you so much on the congrats on my wedding — so sweet of you.

Yes! Punjab has been an excellent match for my NC30 skin. I sometimes have a difficult time getting a good color match in foundation (so many are too pink on my very yellow-toned skin), but NARS has been excellent. Are you able to get a sample to try it? I hope you’ll like it if you try it!!

I’m so sorry to hear that you’ve lost many loved ones, Jaa :(. I lost my dad nearly 5 years ago, and have lost other loved ones, so that’s why that superpower is so near and dear to me. I know what you mean — although it’s an inevitable fact of life, I so wish we had the power to prevent things like that from happening to our loved ones!

I love, love your detailed and helpful reviews so will definitely be following you regularly, Jaa! (I subscribe to you via Feedly right now.) I also love how personable you are to your readers such as myself :). Some beauty bloggers appear unapproachable but you are so friendly and so warm!! I hope you have a good week!

      • Jaa says:

I really am interested in the Nars Sheer Glow but I wonder if it will cause breakouts on my acne-prone skin. I think I’m going to get a sample to try on a small part of my face first. :D

I’m so sorry about your dad. I know exactly what you are going through as I, too, lost my parent. It’s been 14 years for me and I’m doing better now but sometimes the memories still hurt… :(

Thank you for subscribing to my blog! I genuinely LOVE chatting with my readers and learning more about them. I try to comment on other blogs as well but sometimes it’s like I’m talking to myself because the owner never responds, LOL. It’s kind of awkward but I guess sometimes there are just way too many comments and they probably can’t reply to everyone. :)

I hope you have an awesome week ahead, too, Carolyn!! <3

        • Carolyn says:

          Hi again Jaa! :)

I’m very acne-prone and sensitive, and NARS foundations and their tinted moisturizers have not caused any breakouts for me, fortunately. So, I definitely encourage you to try a sample of Sheer Glow — I really really hope you will like it!

I’m so sorry to hear that you had to deal with the loss of your parent at such a young age, Jaa :(. My heart breaks for you, but I feel like you’re such a strong person for having gone through all of that! I know what you mean about the memories hurting. Although time makes things a bit easier to bear, the memories can still sting like a fresh wound sometimes. *Hug* Sometimes, when I’m feeling particularly sad and thinking about my dad and my memories of him, I find some solace in the fact that through all the memories, he’s still a large part of my life even though he’s not physically here anymore. I hope that with time, things have gotten a little easier Jaa, and you are able to smile looking back on most of the memories you have of your parent!

I love how you respond to your readers! You are so personable and so fun to talk to :). I know what you mean, I’ve definitely left comments/questions before on other blogs and never received answers, so it was def. awkward. LOL!

Hope you are having a great week, Jaa!

  • Erin says:

Yep, Rules are made to be broken. I poked around das interweb and found several sets of rules. Several said you could nominate essentially anyone even those before you that were nominated. I figured why not!

    • Jaa says:

      Haha! Very well! :D

What bugs me is that, I want to know who invented this award?!! And why isn’t there an official site?!

  • Aimee says:

Jaa that’s so kind of you! Thank you! I’m torn because I’m considering dismantling my blog and starting up a beauty blog. >_> I’ve been researching and weighing my options, am kind of in limbo. Would love to chat with you about what you think are some of the challenges and rewards of your blog are!

    • Jaa says:

If you need help with blogging, shoot me an email anytime! :D A beauty blog is super fun but is definitely a lot of work, too! I didn’t think it would take this much time and energy when I started but I’m not complaining! As long as you love what you do. :D

  • Almu says:

Thank you Jaa for answering my questions! it was lovely reading your post and getting to know you! thanks for all those mentions as well! :) <3

  • Jaa says:

Thanks to you, Almu! It was fun! :D

  • Jaa, you are the sweetest!! Thank you so much! What a doll you are.

Mmm….fried bananas and ice cream sounds perfect right about now! I too live for colored pens and lip balm and am shy when I’m still getting to know people. :) Super fun getting to know more about you, and thank you so much again for the nomination!

    • Jaa says:

Hehe you’re welcome, Kristen! :D I’d love to know more about you so it would be nice to see your answers on your blog! (Obviously the “50 random facts about you” post isn’t enough for me as I still want to know more, haha!)
