Make Up For Ever Aqua Brow Kit Waterproof Eyebrow Corrector Kit Review & Swatches

I normally like to frame my face with soft and natural-looking brows but lately I've been more into thick/strong eyebrows. I think they give you a “younger” look than their traditional soft arch counterpart. Anastasia Granite is still what I use on a day to day basis for everyday brows but when it comes to strong brows, Make Up For Ever Aqua Brow is what I grab. :)

I have to mention first that this kit is no longer available at Sephora (actually I don't even know if they were ever available) but you can still buy just the Aqua Brow individually. EDIT 6/14: The set is now available again on Sephora! Shown above is shade 30 Dark Brown and 40 Brown Black. At the time of this post, 30 Dark Brown is available for purchase at Sephora but 40 Brown Black is not. I found this kit through Amazon and it includes a mini mesh zipper bag, a #40 Aqua Brow, and two mini brushes — a spoolie and an angled brush. The kit only comes with one Aqua Brow, I purchased the additional #30 because it's always nice to have options. If you want to purchase the set in person, try Make Up For Ever boutiques.

I appreciate the squeeze tube packaging over an open jar. Anything in the open jar, besides being less sanitary, is bound to harden and dry out quickly due to exposure to air. The mesh bag is also really nice and I can fit both Aqua Brows and brushes inside without a problem.

I really love the included angled brush. Its small size and short handle is surprisingly easy to hold and control but what I love most is the bristles! I don't know what they are made of but they are the perfect balance of softness and stiffness! It holds firm during the application, allowing you to draw a line with ease, but at the same time it also has enough give. It doesn't feel scratchy and offers the utmost natural-looking application than any other eyebrow brushes I own. I've been trying to find a similar brush but I haven't found anything like it. I even looked at the Make Up For Ever's own line and still didn't find anything close.

Shade selection

There are 7 shades available: 10 Light Blond, 15 Blond, 20 Light Brown, 25 Ash, 30 Dark Brown, 35 Taupe, and 40 Brown Black. I have 30 and 40. 30 is much warmer and has a hint of red. 40 is cooler and does not have any warmth to it, which I prefer a little more. Sometimes I mix the two shades together to create the third color that's not too warm and not too cool.

Aqua Brow has a gel-like texture with intense pigmentation. It goes on a little wet, offering enough time to shape and fill the brows, and dries down to a satin finish. The pigment is quite opaque so you may want to start with a light hand.

To apply, I dab a tiny, tiny amount on the back of my hand and with the angled brush, I pick up the product and gently apply to my brows. I concentrate on the middle part (to define arch) and the tail first and whatever is left on the brush, I apply it in the front section. I use the included spoolie to groom and even out the color as my final step.

With Aqua Brow, no extra brow gel is needed to hold hair in place, since it already has quite a moderate hold by itself (and without the crunchiness, yes!).

I never thought creating strong brows that still look natural would be this easy! The best part is I never have to worry about the tail of my brow disappearing on me anymore. This thing literally withstands sweat and humidity like a boss.

When I first saw Aqua Brow, I was actually a little intimated by it to tell you the truth, with the pigmentation, texture and all. Had I known what I know about it now, I'd have given it a try a lot sooner! Trust me, the result is very natural, give it a try and you will be surprised. It is truly a fantastic product! :)

  • I had Aqua Brow and returned it >.< Even though my brows are basically black, even shade 25 seemed way too dark for me and I kept feeling like my brows looked like I colored them in with a Sharpie. I am not good enough at brows to work a product this difficult! Someday maybe I will give it another try, but for now, I'll stick with my Brow Wiz and Brow Zings. They're more forgiving and easier for beginners!

    • Hey Laura! Sorry it didn’t work out for you! I think the thing about strong brows is, it has to “grow” on you first. You have to actually like the look of it, if not, then anything that’s darker than your normal brows will look too dark, or in your word, Sharpie-like. This is just my opinion. :)

I agree with you, though, that it takes a little bit of practice to use this product and it’s not as convenient as powder and pencil. Although I did get it to work the first time I tried. I think it has to do with the brush that comes with. That thing is heaven-sent! It practically does all the job for me. I’m not even kidding. I’d cry my heart out if I were ever to lose it!

  • Ahh I keep thinking I should try this one, but I also feel very intimidated! I think this would be great for the pool/beach. I hate it when my eyebrows just disappear LOL

    • Brow disappearing is my absolute worst nightmare! Haha. Can you get a sample to try? In the US, you can pretty much get samples anywhere but in Thailand – no way. I wonder how easy it is to get samples in Belgium?

      • Hmm I’ve never tried in an MUFE store. Here it depends a little from store to store, and also from city to city. I live in a university town, so the SAs tend to be nice and laid back. In bigger cities, they have probably seen too many freeloaders. Unless you buy something, they won’t give you a sample just like that.

  • I love this kit for how technical it allows you to be :-D Just like a rogue’s tools. I haven’t gone any firther with my brows than some matte brown eyeshadow yet, but this looks like such a fun/useful thing to have on hand! Of course, MUFE doesn’t exist here ( I bought both my MUFE lipsticks in Sephoras in France, LOL), but it’s cool nonetheless!

I also like the photos of the two little brow gel ‘turds’ on the brush. It made me giggle because I am, on the inside, 5 years old apparently. ;-)

Also also, your purple + gold eye look = AWESOME.

    • Haha, I do take weird photos sometimes, Syl! I mean, where else can you see that kind of odd photos… only here lol! Thanks for the compliment on the makeup. It’s so simple to do, too!

I’d really love to go to France one day! Did you have a good time? :D

    • Lol it was actually the look I was going for, Erin! Strong and dark! But you can definitely use a light hand with this to get a softer look. :)
