Yep! Just as I imagined: by the time I get around to doing a review on this Marc Jacobs The Nude(ist) Set, it will already be out of stock! Oh well, at least if you like the eyeliner or lipstick, you know you can buy them individually! Although I have to say I initially bought the set just for the cute little “pochette” and mirror. :)
Marc Jacobs The Nude(ist) Set is a trio of an eyeliner, a lipstick, and a pochette with mirror. I'll talk more in details about each product down below. The set was released as a limited-edition item a couple months ago and quickly sold out. I'm glad I was able to get my hands on it before it went out of stock!
What's in the set?
- Marc Jacobs Petite New Nudes Sheer Lip Gel in Role Play (0.03 oz / 0.85 g)
- Marc Jacobs Petite Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in Blacquer (0.01 oz / 0.28 g)
- Marc Jacobs pochette and mirror
Pochette and mirror
The nude pochette is really well-constructed and fits the silver mirror nicely. You can reuse the pochette as a credit card or ID card holder, too. The silver mirror (which I forgot to peel the clear plastic sheet off before taking photos!) is two-sided and produces clear and sharp reflections at a level comparable to a true mirror. The size of the mirror is 8.5 cm (3.3 in) x 5.3 cm (2.1 in).
Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in Blacquer
I'm a huge fan of Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon and Blacquer was among the first colors I tried. I have a detailed review on it here and here. The formula is creamy and smooth enough to not irritate the eyes while still allowing you to create sharp lines with ease. Blacquer is a deep, rich black that stays put on the lash line and waterline without transferring (safe for hooded eyes!) or smudging. It has a twist-up mechanism so sharpening is not required. However, for the full-sized pencil, it includes a sharpener at the other end so you can resharpen it if needed.
New Nudes Sheer Lip Gel in Role Play
Now this is a lipstick I wasn't prepared to fall head over heels in love with! From the bullet it looks so mauve, so brown, so mature and I was ready to place it in my “too mature to wear” lipstick bin. However, upon trying it on, I was hugely surprised by how lovely it wore on me! It is one of the most perfect dusty rose pink shades I've ever seen. It's slightly nude, slightly dusty pink, slightly rose, slightly brown, it's just so perfect but the best part is, it doesn't wash me out! It also has a lovely soft vanilla scent that vanishes quickly. Main ingredients include monoi butter, myrrh extract, and antioxidant vitamin E to keep lips drenched in moisture while minimizing the appearance of aging.
With two coats on:
Notice how wearable it is for a nude shade? I love how it makes my lips appear so smooth and slightly plump. The formula is creamy and gel-like so it applies effortlessly on the lips. I also find the formula so moisturizing that it helps conceal certain dry spots on my lips! It leaves a nice velvet finish with a medium shine that gives your lips a nice, multidimensional effect. Coverage is so not sheer at all. I'd rate it in the medium to full category! Just look at my lip swatch above; that's 2 coats on and it completely covers my natural lip color. Role Play wears very comfortably for about 4-5 hours before fading gradually and evenly. I'm definitely going to buy a full-size when I run out!
