I feel like I'm always rushing in the morning these days and on a good day I will only have just about 10-15 minutes to do my makeup! What do I use for a quick makeover, you ask? Well, I try to stick to the basics — basic color, basic texture, and basic application. And here are my product picks! :)

Base

Top-bottom: MAC Prep + Prime Natural Radiance, Benefit the POREfessional, and Clé de Peau Concealer

Top-bottom: MAC Prep + Prime Natural Radiance, Benefit the POREfessional, and Clé de Peau Concealer

I start with MAC Prep + Prime Natural Radiance (US$40; Nordstrom). I have it in both Radiant Yellow and Radiant Pink and I like them both equally. Radiant Pink, however, provides a slightly brightening effect to the face so I may reach for it a little more often. This primer is unlike anything I've used before. It doesn't feel like a primer at all. It feels gentle, more like a really hydrating moisturizer and it spreads so well. I'm currently writing up a review on it so please stay tuned if you are interested. The post should be up next week.

I follow with Benefit the POREfessional (US$31; Sephora) on the areas where my pores are visible. There is a reason why this product has been widely loved. It is hassle-free to use and it really does an excellent job at covering pores. You basically just pat it on, then tap gently to blend and you are done. Pores gone in seconds!

Last step for the base is my beloved Clé de Peau Concealer in shade Ocher (US$70; Nordstrom). It comes in a stick form so it is really convenient to use. I apply it directly from the stick, focusing on the area around my nose and acne scars. It is extremely lightweight and the easiest concealer to blend while still providing maximum/full coverage. I seriously cannot recommend this concealer enough. Read my full review here.

Face and Lips

L-R: Laura Mercier Foundation Powder, Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush, and Urban Decay Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color

No time for foundation? No problem! Laura Mercier Foundation Powder (US$40; Macy's) will literally make your skin look like you've just applied the best coverage foundation on your face! It makes my skin appear so smooth without looking cakey. It controls oil like a champ, too! I use shade No. 3 — it's slightly darker than my skin but not by much. It actually matches my neck pretty well so I'm happy with it. The part where I'm not happy about is that it is being discontinued! Time to stock up! (I can never understand why brands feel the need to discontinue products so beloved by customers!)

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Mood Exposure (US$35; Sephora) is the bomb. Easy to use, perfect texture and the shade basically pairs with everything. With a light hand, it adds just enough color on the cheeks with subtle illuminating property. You really can't go wrong with it. Read my full review here.

If I had my choice, I'd apply a lip primer, lipstick, and lip gloss but who has time for that! Urban Decay Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color in Lovechild (US$20; Sephora) is basically my… love child. :) It is extremely pigmented and provides, just like the name says, extreme high gloss. The staying power is impressive as well for a lip pencil. I have another color in Naked but I tend to grab Lovechild a little more often because it offers a hint of muted pink that compliments the rest of my basic makeup face.

Eyes

Top: Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil; bottom L-R: L'Oréal Hip Metallic Shadow Duo, Chanel Precision Eyelash Curler, and Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Waterproof Mascara

Top: Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil; bottom L-R: L'Oréal Hip Metallic Shadow Duo, Chanel Precision Eyelash Curler, and Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Waterproof Mascara

Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Soft Brunette (US$32; Sephora) is my life, erm, brow saver! With its slanted tip, I can fill my entire brow in just a few short strokes! The grayish/taupe-y color and the slightly powdery texture are nothing short of a perfect combo. It is very natural-looking! For added convenience, the pencil comes with a spoolie on the other end, too.

L'Oréal Hip Metallic Shadow Duo in 510 Electrified (US$7.25; Amazon). This metallic taupe and sultry dark plum duo will give you the best eye look you can create in under a minute! There are so many ways you can use it depending on how “light” or “dramatic” you want your eye makeup to look. When I'm pressed for times, I just pat on the taupe shade all over the lid (below the crease) using my finger, and then apply the plum shade on the outer corner to create a soft V and bring it up to the crease with a pencil brush. Talk about a polished eye look with definition (and one that reflects light and gives your eyes a sparkly effect!) in a flash! But the best part is this, it is very affordable and available anywhere! :)

Short straight lashes will appreciate the Chanel Precision Eyelash Curler (US$34; Nordstrom)! I love Shu Uemura curler as well but I find the Chanel one fit my eye shape better. It is easy to use, does not pinch, and with one quick press, my lashes are instantly curled and stay curled all day!

I have stopped looking for the best mascara long time ago. Really, why bother. This Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Waterproof Mascara (US$5.94; Walmart) is basically everything I wish for in a mascara. The color is jet black and waterproof. The lightweight texture holds curls, volumizes and thickens lashes like no other. But my favorite part is it doesn't weigh down my lashes even after multiple coats! Great stuff! :) Read my full review here.

So, what do you think of my selection? Did you find anything that you would like to give it a try? What are some of your basics/essentials that you reach for when you only have under 10 minutes to do makeup? :)

    10 minutes….. Ready… set, go!

Base: NARS Radiance Enhancing PRO Primer + Lioele Pore Rich Balm Primer
Face: Bobbi Brown Corrector + Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer + Diorsnow Fresh Reveal Transparency Powder
Lips: Dior Lip Glow Lip Balm
Eyes: Maybelline Colorshow Kohl Eyeliner for tightlining, YSL Faux Cils Effect Mascara

I really like Maybelline’s The Falsies mascara! But I’m not really a fan of waterproof mascara because I’m THAT lazy to use an actual eye makeup remover :(

    • Jaa says:

I’m really interested in the Maybelline Colorshow Kohl Eyeliner for tightlining! Does it transfer/fade? I haven’t had much luck with any type of Kohl pencils for tightlining. They don’t seem to last more than an hour on me and they like to migrate and smudge onto my contacts!

      • Rachelle says:

        It doesn’t for me! :-)

My cousin got me EM cosmetics waterliners to try and I really like them for tightlining too! They’re super pigmented and does not smudge or budge… ONLY concern is that I might use it up super fast because I don’t know how to explain it, but it seems like a big chunk of liner has disappeared each time I use it!

        • Jaa says:

Must be really creamy or something! You really make me want to try em cosmetics! :D

          • Rachelle says:

I only really really like the waterliners! I think the ros gold would look amazing! My Rimmel one doesn’t stay on my lower waterline :(

The chiaroscuro isn’t that amazing either, neither is the concealer!

  • Sunny says:

I actually have several of these products (great minds think alike)! I need to pull that L’Oreal duo out again. It IS a gorgeous thing that has been sitting in my stash unloved! You can get a lot done in 10 minutes! As much as I love eyeshadows and eyeliner, when I only have 10 minutes, they are the first to go! It’ll pretty much be concealer, powder foundation, mascara (so yes, curler, too), blush, and lipstick!

    • Jaa says:

I agree, 10 minutes seems short but you can get quite a few things done, actually! Out of curiosity, how often do you replace your Chanel curler? I’ve been using mine for about 2 years now and while it still looks great and works great, I feel like it’s time to get a new one! Shu Uemura said that one should replace a curler every year but is it really true or is he just saying that for the sale, haha!

      • Sunny says:

Hey Jaa, I actually have a Shu curler!

It depends on how often you use your lash curler and the quality of the silicone pad I think. I only replace when I notice the pad being less bouncy and cushiony on the lashes. Does that make sense? ;)

        • Jaa says:

LOL totally. I do the same. When it feels less cushiony, I just replace the pad. I just wonder if we really need to replace the curler itself. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?! xD

  • Sylirael says:

Hehe! I have the exact same curlers, and I love them so much! I had to wait until I was in Singapore to get them though, as Chanel doesn’t bring its curlers to NZ (for some reason).

I’m a bit slow, so my 10 minute makeup look would probably only make it as far as a dusting of powder, curled and mascara’d eyelashes and a favourite sheer lipstick (Bloom Tangerine or Revlon Peach Parfait, probably) :-P

    • Jaa says:

Hey Syl, how often do you travel out of the country? Have you been to Thailand? :D Their first Sephora store was opened maybe a couple months ago and I can’t wait to go back and visit! :D

I really like Bloom makeup! It’s one of a few brands I used when I was still in Thailand. I love their loose powder and lip stains! :D I don’t think I have ever tried Tangerine, though!

      • Sylirael says:

Tangerine is awesome – I’m wearing it today, as a matter of fact, and it was the very first post I ever made on my blog (*sniff*, memories of, er, a couple of months ago).

I travel quite a bit, one way or another, thanks to conferences and other things – sadly, never to the US, the land of reasonably priced cosmetics! The closest I ever got to going to Thailand was Bangkok airport, unfortunately, but it’s on my list of places to go! So jealous about the Sephora ;-)

  • Erin says:

Looks like I’ll need to try the LM powder and the HIP duo!

  • Dee says:

luuuv this post. I know..im late to the party but saw it in the popup just now ( i guess those things really do work ;) ). I wasntsure about the LM foundation..good to know good to know!!

    • Jaa says:

It’s never too late, Dee! I keep my comment section open for something like this! ;D The LM foundation powder is REALLY good! I hope you do give it a try! :)
