Review & Usage

Benefit Hoola Bronzing & Contouring Brush features a lovely golden bamboo handle with black to turquoise ombré bristles. It is a free-standing brush with the Benefit logo at the base of the handle. I find the brush nicely weighted and those “ridges” on the handle really give you a convenient grip during use. The bristles are long, dome-shaped, and made of synthetic hairs so you can use this brush with liquid, cream, as well as powder makeup.

The brush was designed for bronzing and contouring. For bronzing, it really is a perfect brush! The fluffy and bouncy hairs pick up the right amount of product and deposit it on the face “loosely” for a soft and gentle application. It's supremely easy to get a perfectly bronzed complexion with this brush without overdoing it! As for contouring, I'm still not entirely sold on it. The rather soft and fluffy nature of the bristles makes it a little tricky for me to achieve precise contouring with it. If you're looking to create a really chiseled look, I don't think this is the right tool. But if you're aiming for a subtle, diffused contouring effect, this brush will get the job done beautifully!

It is also a great brush for blending. Beside bronzing, I also really like using it to apply my setting powder as it applies the product so evenly while simultaneously blending it out. More importantly, it doesn't move my foundation, concealer, or liquid blush underneath. I'm amazed at how smooth and gentle the bristles glide on my skin. I honestly didn't expect that!

I've been using it regularly for a few months now with weekly washes, and so far it has maintained its dome-shaped well and hasn't shed a single hair. This is truly a good, multi-functional tool that is worth having in everyone's tool kit! And oh, did I mention it just looks so, so cute on the vanity! :)
