Bite Pomegranate High Pigment Pencil Review & Swatches

Whoops! I didn't realize it has been almost a year since I last reviewed a Bite lippie! Looking back at my old post, oh my goodness, I have changed so much! Everything has changed so much! My hair, my makeup style, my makeup skills, and more importantly, my lighting! LOL! So, to everyone who's new to beauty blogging, don't stress out and give up too soon. Things will improve over time! I am the living proof! :D

Bite High Pigment Pencil features a convenient twist-up pencil style with a color-coded end. There is no sharpening required so there won't ever be any sharpening wastage, yay! The pointy tip also allows for easy application as you can use the very tip to line and the side to fill in.

Pomegranate is a rich cherry-red color that may look like an ordinary red at a glance but wait until you put it on your lips; it is nothing but ordinary! It is very bright, very red, and very bold! It's also the kind of red that brightens up your face instantly! ♥

Pomegranate has a light fruity scent that does not linger. It has the same trusty formula as other Bite lippies — no synthetics or petroleum byproducts — and is formulated only with lip-nurturing food-grade ingredients. Plus, every Bite lip pencil contains the amount of antioxidant resveratrol found in five glasses of red wine!

Described as having a “modern matte finish” but in reality, it is more of a velvety-matte with a subtle sheen. However, as it wears, it transforms into a complete matte (that is non-drying) with zero shine. It also leaves a soft staining effect towards the end and I'm glad it's the kind of stain that is easy to remove! Not the kind that stays on your lips for days to come!

Consistency-wise, it is so smooth, creamy, and opaque, just like you would expect from Bite lip products. One pass yields a full coverage that covers my natural lip color entirely. It is slightly emollient which helps the lip pencil to glide on evenly on the lips without dragging, pulling, or accentuating lip imperfections. It is only lightly hydrating, though, and I notice my lips feeling just a tiny bit dry if I don't reapply once the color fades (usually around the 3-4 hour mark). The color seems to transfer easily in the beginning due to the creamy texture but once it sets to a matte, it's pretty transfer-resistant.

Pomegranate looks its best when worn at maximum opacity but for those who are just starting with red, you can easily tone it down to a more wearable look. Sometimes I just dab it in the center of my lips, then I use a soft lip brush to spread the product all over my lips to sheer down the color to a soft red finish. It also looks beautiful that way!

As with any red lipsticks, it is a good practice to line your lips with some sort of lip liner/primer first to prevent bleeding and feathering. I've read reviews that reported bleeding of the formula but I didn't personally experience it myself. In the following photo, I applied Pomegranate straight from the pencil and I was able to get a clean edge with ease.

  • I can’t say this enough but I love your photos! Also that lipstick looks incredible on you. I’ve been meaning to try out some Bite products but I missed out on the set from Christmas so I need ideas of which ones to get… I wonder if they will release any other sets in the near future.

    • Thanks, Sheila! It’s OK, you can say it again and again and again. I’m never going to get tired of hearing it. Haha. :D I’m pretty sure they will release more sets but the problem is when! >.<

  • Hey Jaa, OH MY GOD YOU LOOK SO GOOD!!! Like seriously stunning! I have a High Pigment Pencil in Quince, and I really like it! Love the twist-up mechanism, and I really think the formula is very close to Rouge G :)

  • You product picture always take my breath away. I keep staring at them instead of reading your post. And yay, you uploaded my fav portrait in the post :-D

On to the post, love the color very much.. and on you it is killer. I am yet to try anything from Bite Beauty.. I think I will start with this one :-P

  • What a beauty- you and the pencil! It is funny to see how much we change overtime! Probably in a year everything will be different as well.

That shade is perfect. For some reason I have never bought anything from Bite. Gotta change that ASAP!

    • I’m so looking forward to next year just to see how much I will have changed! :D Maybe I’ll have blue hair and wear pink contacts. Haha.

  • Wow, that looks so amazing.. and then I scrolled to your face photo.. and I thought “wow, you look sexy”. Absolutely gorgeous!! I have never heard of this brand before today.. but you’re making me very curious with the positive review!

  • your pictures are outstanding and this looks stunning on u
i have one shade from the same range called “winterberry” which i love the most

  • I was lucky enough to get the set of 4 during the holidays and while its not bulletproof, I like it for the ease of application. And the colors are gorgeous!

    • Lucky you! :D I missed that set for some reason. Probably spaced out with everything that was going on during the holidays! What’s your favorite color from the set? Is there Rhubarb in it? I’m totally lemming Rhubarb right now!

      • Rhubarb is included in the set of 4. It’s one of my most used colors as it’s quite close to my natural lip color, just more pigmented xD

  • I’m DYING to try some Bite products! But they are hard to get in Europe, unless you order from Sephora US which can be a total pain in the butt… at some point in the future I’ll probably cave and get some, though. They just look too good.

This lipstick also looks really nice on you, Jaa! If I may ask, what kind of lightning do you use? I’m relying on natural light at the moment, but it’s not a wise move in Ireland, lol. Days are often grey (and pictures turn out too blue), and I’m limited to take pictures on my free days.

    • Thanks, Carla! I suppose you mean the portrait lighting? In this photo it’s a ring light + natural light + flash! :D Can you white balance your camera? I find it helps a lot to color correct the photos especially when there’s not enough light outside and/or when the colors don’t come out the way they should be. Increasing the ISO a bit might just help, too! Give it a go! :)

  • Can I just say I recently found your blog and I am absolutely in love with it? Your photos are breathtaking and I love your writing. You’re inspirational!!…xx

    • Hey Liv! Thanks so much for your kind words! I’m so glad you stumbled upon my blog! :D How are you doing on this fine Sunday? I just woke up. Haha

      • Hello Jaa, I am doing alright but it’s sunday night already so I am a lil’ sad the weekend is over so soon…Have a great week ahead and thanks for stopping by on my blog!!!..xx

    • Thanks so much! I love seeing lipsticks up-close, too! That’s why I take so many of them. It’s like a mandatory shot for my lipstick reviews. Haha.
