Burberry Autumn/Winter 2015 Runway Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

Burberry Autumn/Winter 2015 Runway Eyeshadow Palette

Black smokey eyes are classic, definitely, but it doesn't have to always be black! For a new take on the smoldering effect, try khaki smokey eyes!

Taking cue from the “Patchwork, Pattern & Prints” at Autumn/Winter 2015 Runway, Burberry created a minimalist eyeshadow palette containing 3 military-inspired eyeshadow colors in a camouflage-chic pattern. The hefty mirrored compact comes equipped with a high quality black velvet pouch. The pouch has a stitched compartment where you'll find three mini eye makeup brushes (a basic flat eye shader/blender brush, a slanted liner brush, and a sponge-tip brush). These brushes are not at all useless and actually come in handy for times when I need to do my smokey eyes on the go.

The palette features a vanilla nude, a khaki green, and a darkened greenish black. You have the option to use all 3 colors to create a military-inspired smokey eye look or you can use each shade solo for a wash of color over the lid. All have a matte finish but the khaki shade has a very slight sheen to it, too. The camouflage pattern is eye-catching and yes, chic, but it possesses difficulty at picking up individual colors since it lacks clear dividers between the shades. You'll need a rather small brush to pick up just one color. And even then there have been times that I accidentally picked up the adjacent color! Imagine trying to pick up a nude shade as a base lid color and accidentally picking up the black with it! Not fun! I feel that this is more of a collectible item rather than a practical one.

As for the powder, it is finely-milled and firmly-pressed so there's no fallout as far as I can tell. Sadly, I can't say I am fully happy with the pigmentation and texture. These colors are rather sheer, and kind of dry, and not very vibrant. For better results, I always prime my lids with a good primer and cream base first. The primer/base will also help extend the wear of these shades as by themselves, they don't have remarkable staying power. They are buildable, though, and I think this is why the sheer coverage may be of good thing as you have the ability to customize your smokey effect to look more natural or dramatic. Thankfully the shadows blend easily and I have no complaint in this department!

As mentioned above, I honestly feel that this Burberry Autumn/Winter 2015 Runway Eyeshadow Palette is more of a collector's piece than something that you'd use on a daily basis. Its performance is not in any way comparable to my Burberry single eyeshadows. For an eye candy, the palette earns perfect score. However, from a practical standpoint, I'd only reserve it for occasional use where I have more time to spend fidgeting with the colors.
