Intonation isn’t the kind of color I normally gravitate towards. At first glance, it was too bold, too bright, too coral, too much. But it all changed as soon as I swatched it on my arm! It literally was a love at first swipe! :)
Chanel Notes de Printemps Collection for Spring 2014 features 2 cream blushes in 67 Chamade and 69 Intonation. Intonation is lighter, brighter, and more coral than Chamade. Chamade leans a little more pink, which is also beautiful, but I went with Intonation because I find its coral undertone a little easier to work with and it just looks more flattering on my complexion.
Intonation looks ridiculously intimidating in the pan with its almost neon color but when swatched and sheered out on the skin, it’s actually a really nice and wearable shade of warm coral pink. I think it’s the kind of color that would suit a wide variety of skin tones. As with all Chanel cream blushes, Intonation is scent-free and comes housed in a super small (translates: travel-friendly) mirrored compact, completely protected in a matching black velvet pouch.
Due to its intense pigmentation, I find it best to start with the smallest amount. I dab my fingertip in the pan and lightly pat it onto my cheeks, then gently blend it out to sheer. A stippling brush works great, too, especially when you want just a light wash of color on the cheeks. It is to be applied over foundation but I find applying over a setting powder is just as easy.
The cream-to-powder texture really makes for fuss-free blending and a streak-free finish! I wouldn’t say that it completely dries down to a matte powder, though, because it feels slightly more velvety/satiny to me.
With proper application, Intonation actually gives the cheeks a really healthy-looking flush without emphasizing pores (thanks to its shimmer-free formula)! It feels lightweight, non-sticky, and it just lasts. I do get an all day wear (8-9 hours) without any sign of fading or migrating on my combination to oily skin. :)
I have tried quite a few cream blushes myself and I can honestly say the texture of Chanel’s is far more superior than the rest. The formula applies like a dream and provides a beautiful satiny finish that doesn’t require setting with powder. I have been slowly collecting them and have had 3 shades in my collection so far. 63 Révélation is still my favorite but Intonation is slowly becoming the one I reach for more often now especially when Spring is right around the corner. :)
