Chanel Lèvres Scintillantes Glossimer is one of the lip glosses I reach for often since it is so easy and comfortable to wear. The formula and texture is really superb! No wonder it's the winner of InStyle's Best Beauty Buys for Lip Gloss this year.
I've been collecting them (slowly) for a while and currently I have 4 colors so far in my stash; 03 Glaze, 04 Spark, 154 Liaison, and 165 Volupté. I'll be talking about each color individually later in the post but for now I'll be talking about the packaging, formula, texture, and longevity of these lip glosses in general.
They are housed in a see-through, square plastic tube with a shiny black twist-on cap. The gold band situated between the tube and the cap and the Chanel's iconic interlocking C's embossed in gold on the top of the cap add quite a luxury accent to the overall look of the packaging. The applicator is of a typical long, doe-foot type that you find in most lip glosses – there really is nothing special about the applicator.
What is more special, though, is the formula! I absolutely adore the formula of these glossimers. They are extremely smooth, apply evenly, and feel very comfortable on the lips I sometimes forget I have lip gloss on. The texture feels almost gel-like and is super lightweight with zero stickiness. They also provide an amazing glossy shine that lasts for a good few hours or longer depending on the color and while they are not the most moisturizing lip glosses, I don't find them to be drying in the least bit. All Chanel glossimers are scent-free and I'm OK with that although I prefer scented lip products a little more.
03 Glaze[permanent] Glaze looks medium pink in the tube but once applied on the lips, the color is almost transparent and only leaves the slightest hint of pink. There is no shimmer whatsoever and it goes on completely sheer but leaves a super glossy shine. I barely see any pink tint on my pigmented lips but on paler lips, the pink may show up a bit better. Honestly, there's really nothing special about this color and you may find a similar shade anywhere else for a cheaper price. :)
04 Spark[permanent] Spark is a dark cherry red color with gold shimmer. It's a warm, festive red that would be perfect for the holiday season. The pigmentation is quite opaque in one pass and the color does show up well on my lips. The little gold sparkles don't feel gritty at all and they stay on lips even after the red wears off. I find Spark to have the longest staying power which is to be expected since it is the boldest color.
154 Liaison[limited edition] I know I shouldn't have included this color since it was a limited edition shade and is no longer available but I thought I'd just throw it in for comparison. :) It is basically a completely clear lip gloss with gold and pink micro sparkles that is barely noticeable once on the lips. You can wear it on its own but I like to apply it as a layering gloss over a lip color to add that extra oomph and high shine. The staying power is quite short-lived and I truly feel that it's not really a must-have color so don't feel bad if you didn't purchase it. You really didn't miss anything… and once again, I'm pretty sure you can find something similar at a much cheaper price. :)
165 Volupté[permanent] Now, let's talk about my most favorite color – Volupté! This shade was released for Spring 2012 and I'm glad it's not a limited edition! :) It's a gorgeous milky peachy color and is shimmer-free. It may look a little intimidating in the tube but trust me, it is super wearable and would look suitable for everyday wear. On my lips, it leaves a slight hint of coral but a lot of shine. I like to layer this color over a nude lipstick for a glossy effect!
In summary, the performance of Chanel glossimers really depends on the shade. The more opaque colors tend to show up better and have longer staying power compared to the lighter colors but one thing that you can expect from any color is the lightweight feel and the serious, gorgeous shine. If you haven't tried any Chanel glossimers before, definitely go for the more pigmented ones, which is what I am planning to do from now on. Unless you are a true Chanel fan that you have to have every color then I say, go for it! :)
