I was pretty happy when I discovered the Cover FX Illuminating Primer (review). It's great for adding an all-over luminous glow to the face but let me introduce you to yet another wonderful product from the brand that will take our glow to the next level! Cover FX The Perfect Light Highlighting Powder, a powder form of the brand's famous Custom Enhancer Drops, was created just for those who may prefer something a little less intense and a little more user-friendly than the liquid version. There are 3 shades available — Moonlight, Sunlight, and Candlelight — but today's post is going to focus on the Moonlight which is the brightest and most intense shade of all!
Cover FX The Perfect Light Highlighting Powder is housed in a super sleek plastic mirrored compact that opens easily with just a click of a button. It is lightweight, yet sturdy, and fits perfectly in the palm of your hand. The product has no discernible scent and was formulated without parabens, sulfates, phthalates, talc, gluten, and mineral oil. Additionally, it's also vegan and cruelty-free!
Moonlight may look sort of dark in the pan but don't let the tan color fool you because it actually applies with a soft silvery glow as seen in my arm swatches below! Compared to Sunlight (a soft gold glow) and Candlelight (a shimmering golden bronze), Moonlight stands out as the brightest shade while providing the most stark contrast for my medium-toned skin. It is therefore a great option for strobing! For a more natural effect, I like to apply it with a fluffy fan brush such as the Smashbox Fan Brush #22 (review) because a light dust of this highly pigmented powder is more than plenty to create a noticeable result.
If you have pale skin, the effect of Moonlight may be completely different than mine as the silvery sheen might not be as obvious!
The brand suggested that you may also use the product for an all-over illumination. It may be true for the other two shades, but for Moonlight, it is probably best to apply only on the high points of the face. I prefer to start with a light application then build to achieve the desired result. Having mature skin, I'm also a little cautious not to apply it on the areas where I have enlarged pores and fine lines to avoid accentuating them.
The finely-milled powder was pressed firmly in the pan but it gets picked up easily on a brush with minimal powder kickup. It is very silky, very creamy to the touch and blends superbly. The rich pigments apply evenly and seem to meld with the skin without creating harsh edges. It never feels or looks dry or powdery at all on me. I also appreciate the brand for using ultra fine pearls in the formula so I can achieve a glowy but refined sheen without obvious chunks of sparkly particles.
Wear time without primer is about 5-6 hours and may be less if you have oily complexion. Not ultra long-lasting but will certainly last till the end of the day.
In my picture, I applied the powder mainly on cheekbones and brow bones to show off the silvery sheen. As you can see, the effect is refined but not unnoticeable. I also love how it lifts up my complexion nicely!
Cover FX The Perfect Light Highlighting Powder in Moonlight is like a breath of fresh air. It may look like any other highlighters on the market but in a way it is different in its own way. I love that it allows me to achieve a subtle effect for everyday use but is also ready when I want to go all out and strobed up. I'm happy to give this product two thumbs up and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to all my readers. :)
