I started using the new Dior Addict It-Lash mascara exactly a month ago. I even brought them to Thailand with me to see if the formula could withstand extreme heat and humidity. I normally do not wear colored mascara but something about these just lured me in; the fun and colorful promo images, perhaps? Read on for review and swatches of all 4 colors! :D
A short note before we begin.
Going through my blog archive, I realized that I have only reviewed one mascara! I suppose there’s a reason for that: I am ashamed of my lashes, period. Haha! Seriously, I feel like I am not a good candidate to review lash products because my lashes are short, sparse, straight, and really thin. Even with the best mascara in the world, it’s not going to make much difference for me! But I’m going to review these anyway. If anything, you will at least get to see how they look on (thin) black lashes. :)
Now that we have understood each other, let’s dive right in!
The new line-up of the Dior Addict It-Lash mascara features 4 color options:
- It-Black – a jet black
- It-Blue – an electric blue
- It-Purple – a deep purple
- It-Pink – a hot pink, supposedly, however, it shows up more on the red side on me
Each shade comes in an identical packaging — a black, glossy, squared tube with an iconic Dior Addict round silver knob at the top of the cap. The only way to identify each color is to go by the colored sticker at the bottom of the tube (a little painful if you have more than one color; try storing them upright so you can spot the desired shade right away).
The applicator reminds me a lot of Benefit’s They’re Real and Maybelline’s The Rocket. The entire wand, including the rounded tip, is covered with firm (but not inflexible) and spiky bristles, making application in the hard-to-reach inner and outer corner lashes as well as bottom lashes a breeze. I prefer super spiky brushes like this because they help separate and declump lashes as you apply.
The formula is a little on the wet side but it dries quickly. It is not waterproof but from my experience in Thailand, none of the 4 colors smudged/smeared/transferred on me, which was really surprising! I believe they owe it to the “unique latex gel polymer” technology (like everyone is supposed to know what that is, so technical, haha!) where once the formula dries, it becomes insoluble. The claim is probably true or I would have witnessed raccoon eyes! The staying power is out of the world crazy, as I did not see any signs of fading at all until I removed it at the end of day/night. I’m impressed! :)
And speaking of removing, these come off easily with any eye makeup remover! :)
However, as good as it sounds, I have to say that the formula does clump as you layer. It also makes lashes feel slightly crunchy and if you happen to have thin lashes like mine, these are going to weigh them down, so they are less than ideal at keeping the curl. Another thing worth mentioning is I think the formula does lengthen lashes but not necessarily volumize. You may notice your lashes becoming thicker but it’s nothing spectacular in my opinion.
In terms of colors, I kid you not, they are absolutely stunning and extremely vibrant! As you will see in the photos down below. My natural lashes are complete black and for these colors to come through this strong, the pigments have to be opaque, and really saturated. I actually really like the effect each color has on my eyes; for example, It-Blue really brightens up the white of the eye, making me look awake; It-Purple is deep and more subtle, alluring and a little mysterious (my favorite!); It-Pink is probably my least favorite because it comes out more of a red than pink on me and I’m not sure I like the effect!; and It-Black is just well, black, nothing special. :)
I love the high intensity of the It-Blue and It-Pink and I’d wear them alone for any occasion, but if you find them a little too over the top, try applying just on the tip of the lashes for a subtler effect! :)
Overall, I am satisfied with the new Dior It-Lash mascara! They offer a pop of fun color to your eye without too much effort. I wish the formula wouldn’t weigh my lashes down so much and that it would keep my curl better but that could just be my own lash problem. If you are blessed with thick and full set of lashes, I really think these will look amazing on you! The color would show up so much stronger and I can only imagine how striking the effect would be! :)
Are you planning to purchase these mascara? What color are you interested to try most? If you have used them, what are your thoughts?
