This season Dior has reformulated their Rouge Brillant Lip Gloss to Rouge Dior Brilliant Lipshine & Care Couture Colour following the lip gloss+lipstick+lip balm trend. Being a huge fan of such formula, I thought I'd grab one to try out. After one week of daily use, I can honestly say that the new formula hit the nail on the head in every aspect — it's truly a liquid lipstick that feels nourishing like a true lip balm and provides a glossy shine like a true lip gloss!
The new Rouge Dior Brillant Lipshine comes in a traditional clear gloss tube with a shiny black screw-on top. The two components are bonded by a reflective silver band that has Dior's iconic Cannage pattern engraved on it, which to me, adds that extra touch of luxuriousness to the overall look. The attached doe-foot applicator features a unique slanted design; it is flat on one side and tapered on the other. The tapered side contains a well/reservoir to hold excess product so you don't have to keep dipping the wand in and out of the tube for more gloss. The tip is precise enough to fit the contours of your lips and since the color I picked up is on the “forgiving/neutral” spectrum of color, I don't feel the need to polish the edges with a lip brush.
You know me, I love everyday pink lips so naturally I picked up a soft pink shade from the line-up. Miss (359) is a nice, subtle pink with just a hint of coral that I think should compliment many skin tones. It contains shimmer particles when inspected up-close but on the lips, they are invisible and appear to give lips a fuller appearance. It has a delicate floral scent that is so subtle and you may not even notice it at all during application. What you might notice, though, is the initial faint tingling sensation (very faint) probably created by a lip-plumping ingredient.
Besides the lip-plumping benefit, the new gloss also contains a mix of “3 lipcare oils” to condition lips and a vitamin E complexed with an “active ingredient” to soothe lips and to “reactivate collagen synthesis” during wear (I wonder what such “active ingredient” is!). The combinations truly work in my favor because my winter lips feel instantly soothed and hydrated immediately after application. The hydrating effect lasts throughout the entire wear and continues to keep lips feeling smooth and comfortable even after the gloss has worn off. And because of this, I give it a perfect ten in the “lip balm” department!
The thick and emollient formula feels like melted butter that glides on effortlessly across the lips. It isn't entirely lightweight because I can always feel it on my lips especially in the beginning of wear. I really don't mind it, though, since I find that it clings and hugs my lips better and I do get a longer-lasting power as a result. It typically wears well for 3-4 hours before the color starts to fade. Miss does not leave any type of stain on my lips.
In terms of color and coverage, Miss applies sheer with one pass but the coverage is easily buildable to near-opaque in multiple coats. I'm surprised to see that I can build it up enough to almost cover discoloration on my lips (see my last photo below)! The creamy color doesn't seem to settle into lip lines or collect in the corners or form a milky white line in the center of the lips which I'm happy to see. Another perfect ten in the lipstick aspect!
The glossy appearance it provides literally rivals that of a true lip gloss, if not better! It doesn't leave lips greasy or sticky, just tacky enough to prolong its wear time. The high-shine really imparts a fuller lip appearance. It simply makes my lips look extra smooth and luscious! :)
In the photo below, I wore the gloss alone on bare lips and you can see that most of my lip discoloration is concealed. The plumping effect is also obvious as well as the brilliant shine. I decided to pair it with a simple black smokey eye but Miss looks just as great worn with everyday fresh-faced makeup!
I'm more than happy to give the new Dior Miss Rouge Dior Brilliant Lipshine & Care Couture Colour my highest recommendation! There are currently 12 shades to choose from and there are some really bright ones, too, if you are feeling adventurous. I have not seen the line-up anywhere else yet apart from the Dior website (free shipping) and Neiman Marcus (link below; not affiliated). I'll update the purchase links accordingly once they are available at other retailers.
