I have heard so many good things about Erno Laszlo skincare. Their White Marble Treatment Bar is a favorite of many and also one of their best-selling products. I didn't know what to expect at first as I'm not a big bar soap fan to begin with but my experience after using it has convinced me that not all bar soaps are created equal! Erno Laszlo's is one-of-a-kind and certainly deserves all the praise!
Shown in this post is the Erno Laszlo Lighten & Brighten White Marble Cleansing Set that features travel sizes of the famous White Marble Treatment Bar and White Marble Cleansing Oil. The set comes in a sturdy black plastic tray with a divider separating each product. There is also a sleeve that goes over the entire tray to keep everything inside secure.
The brand recommends removing makeup with the cleansing oil first then follow with the bar soap to revitalize and brighten the skin. I'm going to review each product separately.
First step: The White Marble Cleansing Oil
The White Marble Cleansing Oil is meant to be used as your first cleansing step. Pour a generous amount on the palm of hand then gently massage in circular motions on dry face to dissolve makeup and impurities. The oil has a lovely citrus-y scent (a mixture of orange, lemon, and coconut) that is not overpowering at all. It is able to quickly dissolve makeup of all kinds be it long-wearing or waterproof. It dries a little fast though so I find myself having to use a little bit more per cleanse than when I use my other cleansing oils. Additionally, try not to go anywhere near the eye area because it stings! :) My skin feels clean and hydrated after use, not greasy or oily at all. The oil preps my face for the second step of cleansing with the bar soap.
In the picture below, I swatched a waterproof liquid eyeliner, a lip & cheek staining tint, a full-coverage foundation, and a staining lipstick on my arm, then tried to remove it with the White Marble Cleansing Oil. As you can see in the next photo below it that the oil was able to dissolve all of the makeup effectively except the lip & cheek staining tint that still left a very faint stain behind. I never expect any cleansing oil to be able to completely remove strong tints anyway.
Second step: The White Marble Treatment Bar
The White Marble Treatment Bar is meant to be used as a second cleanse. The formula relies on nano-encapsulation technology where the time-released actives, once absorbed, begin to work immediately and continually for hours even after the soap has been rinsed off. Said actives are a complex of (1) fruit acids rich in AHAs plus willow bark extract as an exfoliator, (2) nano-encapsulated LumiWhite Complex as skin's intensive brightener by blocking melanin production, and (3) Shear butter and Vitamin C as skin's nourishing agent and antioxidant. With continued use, the soap helps lessen the look of discoloration and prevents excessive production of melanin resulting in a brighter and lighter skin.
I like that the tray provided has holes on the bottom to keep the soap dry after use. The soap has the same citrus-y scent as the cleansing oil. It lathers so well and you don't need much at all to cleanse the entire face. The brand recommends using the rounded corners to stimulate circulation but I simply use my hands and fingertips because it's just faster. My skin after use doesn't ever feel tight or dry which honestly surprised me a lot because most bar soaps tend to dry out your skin.
I have a lot of old blemish scars and discoloration on my cheeks. I'll continue to use the set and report back whether my skin has improved. I have high hopes that it will, though, judging from the fruit extracts and other active ingredients in the formula. Beside the White Marble set, the brand also offers many other double cleanse sets such as Hydra-Therapy, Detoxifying, Firmarine, as well as the Sensitive for sensitive skin users. These are all perfect for travel and would make a great gift for any occasion.
