Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Bachelorette Review & Swatches

I've been sitting here trying to come up with a proper introduction for this post but all I can think of is the brand's latest controversy about the name Underage Red which is one of the colors offered in the Everlasting Liquid Lipstick line. In that article, Kat Von D explains how she came up with the name. Basically she was denied entry to her first punk-rock concert because she was underage, and she happened to be wearing a red lipstick. She insists there's nothing sexual about it, just a name to “cherish a memory“, and it totally made perfect sense to me. I personally do not have anything against the name at all but I can see why some are bothered by it. Maybe I am just desensitized about these controversial names after years of wearing makeup with even more controversial names?

Well, I didn't mean to turn this into a controversy discussion post but I just felt like it needed to be mentioned. :D Now, let's get on with the review of Bachelorette — a color less red and definitely with a lighter and safer name in comparison! ;D

Shown here is a deluxe sample size which is packaged in a typical lip gloss tube with standard doe-foot applicator. It's a rather skinny tube but seeing how pigmented it is, and how rare I wear red lips, this tube is going to last me a really, really long time! The applicator is not quite precise and as a finishing touch, I find myself needing a lip brush to perfect the edges of my lips. It doesn't have any scent as far as I am aware.

Bachelorette is a pretty, vibrant reddish fuchsia. The creamy formula applies slightly glossy initially but will set to a smooth, ultra-matte finish within a few minutes. It is the flat matte type without any shine or shimmer and without tackiness or stickiness. Once set, it is transfer-resistant as I once tried touching my lips with my clean finger and nothing transferred to it!

One swipe will reach its full opacity and cover my natural lip color perfectly. It is layerable to a stronger red if desired without looking heavy or thick. I find that a formula like this needs to be applied over well-exfoliated lips to prevent it from emphasizing dry flakes. You may also apply a lip balm underneath but make sure that you blot dry before applying the lipstick as anything balmy or oily will reduce the wear time.

On its own, Bachelorette lasts well over 5-6 hours through small eating and drinking but if applied over a slightly oily base, it will last only half the time. It isn't a very moisturizing formula to begin with, and depending on the current condition of your lips, you may find it to be drying especially towards the end of wear. It is to be expected, though, for such a long-lasting formula. My advice: try to keep a lip balm close by to recondition your lips! :)

Below is how Bachelorette looks on me. I chose to pair it with subtly shimmery lid color and intense black eyeliner while keeping the rest of the makeup simple so that the focus is on the lips! :) I'm not too crazy about it highlighting fine lines and texture on my lips but I've got to say, the color is spot on!

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick is obviously formulated for those who love a long-lasting matte finish. I wish it wore a little more comfortable towards the end but I don't think I have come across a long-wearing matte formula that does that. Bachelorette itself is quite a unique red as it isn't full-on red but with a bit of fuchsia in it, truly a fun and youthful shade, just like you'd expect to feel when you go to a bachelorette party! :)

  • How Underage Red is more controversial than names such as Orgasm or Super Orgasm will never be something I could fathom, lol. But Bachelorette is such a beautiful color on you!

  • Oh my Gooooood this looks really sexy on you! Love the eye makeup you paired with it as well. Absolutely stunning! Also, name controversies: I think I’ve also seen a little too many of those to be bothered by now…

    • Thanks so much, Sunny! What’s the weirdest, most edgy name of makeup that you’ve come across? Mine would have to be Deep Throat!

  • That color looks amazing on you! I like to hear that it is transfer proof but my lips are naturally really dry so I wonder if it wouldn’t work for me but that color pay off may be totally worth the try!

    • Then I wouldn’t recommend this at all unless you are only wearing it for a short time and really prep and moisturize your lips well beforehand. :)

  • I like Kat Von D but I think those names are controversial on purpose cause they sell well. The same with Nars Orgasm blush!

Anyways the color is gorgeous on you! And the eye look is die for. Can you break down the eye look for me?? It’s stunning!

You could easily wear this whole look to your bachelorette party once you have it!

    • I’d love to, Agata! But you know me, I don’t even remember what I wore yesterday, let alone something I wore almost a month ago. LOL I’m really bad at documenting products I used! >.< My bachelorette party would be low-key, though! I like to just get together with close friends for good food and happy music. ;D

  • It is stunning on you, Jaa!!! So pretty.
I find a deep fuchsia leaves similar stains regardless of the formulations, although this liquid lipstick certainly looks more intensified. :)

    • Thanks, Lena! I do prefer lip products that leave a stain because I don’t touch up my makeup much during the day. :D

  • I love this shade on you! Sooo pretty!
I recently picked up BauHau5 and I’m in love with it. For a matte lip I find the formula amazing actually. ^_^

  • Please make this photo as your profile picture in all your social media accounts! so sexy!!! Bachelorette is so pretty! I don’t have this color yet!!! Awwww I wanna be underage again!!!! Huhuhubells. lol

    • LOL maybe I will! ;D I’m not sure I want to be under age again, though! I had no job back then. At least now I have a job and money to buy makeup! :D

  • Whoa that shade is stunning on you! Seriously, it’s as if it were made for just you!

I own a few of these lipsticks and I love them! I personally find them to be more comfortable than some of the other liquid matte lipsticks. Although I do know what you mean about it not feeling AS comfortable toward the end. And now I need to add Bachelorette to my collection.

    • Thanks so much, Lisa! <3 I agree, they are still more comfortable than most liquid matte lipsticks. I suppose sometimes you have to trade the drying effect with staying power. I think every girl should own Bachelorette because it's such a unique shade!

  • Hot DAMN, Jaa! You look fine! This color was made for you. It’s a shame that it’s not that comfortable to wear, because this color has just the right balance of youth, sexiness, and intrigue. I love shades that make you look closer–is it red, is it pink?…is it red, or is it pink?! :) This is probably my favorite lip color I’ve seen on you. It really makes your cheeks pop as well. Gah, I’ll stop gushing. XD

    • Aww you’re too sweet, Audrey! ^_^ The mixture of red and pink makes this shade extra unique. I like that it’s not full-on red or plain hot pink but a little combination of both. Please don’t stop gushing. I love hearing it! Haha (p.s. it’s so nice to hear from you by the way! :D)

  • Your eye look is so gorgeous! The blending job you did is award-worthy, Jaa! This is a really fun shade, and the name is perfect. Who cares about “Underage Red” at this point? We’ve already got Orgasm, Deep Throat, Fuzzy Handcuffs, SUGAR WALLS…I mean…it’s makeup. It’s cheeky. Just go with it! People are so easily up in arms these days, lol. We all need a moment of zen! ;)

    • Haha true that! To me, unless it hurts someone’s feelings, then it’s just word! Where did you hear the Sugar Walls, though??? LOL!
