It's about time we have a new series on Hello Jaa! :) My preference in makeup has always been mid-range to high-end products but since my move back to Thailand I have discovered so many amazing items from local brands/shops that I felt compelled to share my finds with all of you. Some are great finds of course, others not so much. Since about 50% of my readers are from Thailand, I hope that this new series will be able to help you (or anyone coming to Thailand) decide on what product to invest in and what to skip. For this very first installment, I have 3 products I wanted to share! Let's get started!

This is a super lightweight, water-based, chemical sunscreen containing Octinoxate, Avobenzone, Amiloxate, Ethylhexyl salicylate, and Ensulizole. It provides SPF 40 PA+++ so it is effective at protecting your skin from both UVA and UVB rays. Other noteworthy ingredients include purified extract of sunflower sprouts and Natural Moisturizing Factor. The scent reminds me of something herbal. It's very mild and pleasant and dissipates quickly.

The texture is of milky white lotion that spreads easily and absorbs quickly without leaving a thick, heavy film. It's a chemical sunscreen so you don't ever have to worry about white cast (it leaves none). I find it to mattify my skin slightly but in no way is it as mattifying as my Tatcha Silken Pore Perfecting Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 35 (review). I can still detect a little bit of subtle shine post application. Due to the silicone content, it is able to pull double-duty as a face primer by filling in enlarged pores and smoothing the complexion but the effect is very mild compared to an actual face primer.

The selling point here is the “sebum control“. However, I hate to break it to you but I do not see any sebum controlling from my experience. By lunch time, my face would still look shiny and dewy like it always does so I don't think it does much in terms of oil production, at least not for me.

I'm trying to use less chemical sunscreen nowadays so I don't think I'll repurchase. For those who prefer chemical sunscreen with high SPF that is effective, easy to apply, and does not leave a greasy white cast, this one may be worth looking into. [Made in Korea]

Malissa Kiss Super Black Ultra HD Eyeliner; L-R: one swipe and built up

I was introduced to this eyeliner by the ever-so-lovely Pearypie! I was so confident that it was going to be a great eyeliner so I bought two at once! There are things that I love about it and things that I think it could be improved upon.

What I love:

  • Super smooth and ultra-sharp brush tip that doesn't splay over time! You can create a line as thin as 0.01 mm so anyone in search of a super natural-looking black eyeliner, this is a great option!
  • It's so easy to create a winged look due to its precision tip! The brush is flexible and won't poke or drag the eyelid.
  • The matte finish! Lovely!
  • Can I say packaging? I mean, polka dots! *heart eyes*

What could be improved upon:

  • The ink. It's black alright, but it's not the blackest black I've seen. It could be just a little bit blacker! :)
  • The ink flows smoothly and continuously but the formula is on the thin side. It doesn't apply opaque right away. I need to go over the line a few times to get to the opacity I prefer (which is usually opaque black).
  • It isn't truly waterproof. It provides an all-day wear on a normal day basis but on days that I sweat (or cry) a lot, it tends to fade or disappear especially on the outer corner of my eyes.

For the price, I think it's a decent eyeliner. I plan to repurchase when I run out but will probably opt for something else a bit more heavy-duty such as the Kat Von D Ink Liner in Trooper (review) for when I need my eyeliner to last and last until the removal time. [Made in Korea]

I've been heavily into liquid tint/stain as of late (and yes, I've been buying so many of them as a result)! I've been sporting gradient lips for the last couple of weeks but I like to stay within my comfort zone of pink and coral. Utip is specialized in creating ultra long-lasting liquid lip tints. I've tried all the varieties they offer but my favorite is these Gel 2 in 1's! They seriously stain. I can drink, I can eat, I can talk, and at the end of the day, the stain is still there in vivid color, not faded! For those familiar with Utip products, these come with the very same refreshing scent as the original Utip water tint!

Main ingredients are turmeric extract and vitamin C, E, B3, and B5. It has a lightweight water-gel consistency that glides across the lips evenly and easily, almost too easily! So do be careful during application not to go over the lip line because it stains right away. It tends to be slightly drying if applied on bare lips so I recommend putting on a layer of lip balm underneath and blot away excess shine before applying the tint. It doubles as a cheek tint, too, but due to the strong and immediate staining effect, I rarely use it on the cheeks for fear of not blending it fast enough! ^_^ Now I only wish they would come out with more colors soon! [Made in Thailand]
