ABOUT MAKEUP MINI SERIES
Makeup Minis is where I feature deluxe samples I received with my online and/or in-store purchases. I'll give you a short description of the product, my initial impression and whether I plan to purchase a full-sized version. I am only listing 3 items per volume to keep the post short and fun! :)

Benefit They're Real! Push-Up Liner

Benefit
They're Real! Push-Up Liner

The more I use this liner, the deeper I fall in love with it! Once you get past the learning curve, this will be a liner that you will reach for often! The texture is soft and creamy smooth. The black is deep jet black. The staying power is great. And the genius AccuFlex tip really makes it easy to create wings and sharp lines. Read my review here.

Josie Maran Argan Black Oil Mascara

Josie Maran
Argan Black Oil Mascara

I don't find this mascara to make much difference on the appearance of my lashes (but then again, nothing rarely ever does on my sparse lashes). The brush shape is kind of strange, too. The formula, while creamy smooth and jet black, smudges and runs easily on humid days. Good thing it is formulated with Argan Oil and bamboo to strengthen lashes.

Full-sized purchase? Probably not.

Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide

Laura Mercier
Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide

A brand new, lightweight summer/early fall foundation from the brand with medium-to-full coverage and a natural demi-matte finish. I really like how it evens out the redness around my nose so well without settling into pores. It feels comfortable all day, too. The consistency is very fluid-y and can get really messy, though. Full-sized purchase? Absolutely!

  • Fiona says:

I love reading the mini post. Laura Mercier has surely caught my attention. I will probably check this when I travel.

  • I tried the Benefit push up liner but I just could not make it work for me :-(

  • Sunny says:

Hey Jaa, oh how I wish minis were so readily available here! Unfortunately, I still don’t have great luck with the Benefit liner. At some point I thought I had finally mastered the application, so I wore it out. Within two hours, it creased ALL ALONG MY LASH LINE! That was the last straw. I think I have given it more chances than any other product by now. Too bad it’s just not for me!

    • Jaa says:

It creased on you?!! Woah, that’s new! This thing just stays on and on on me (and I swear I thought we had the same great longevity experience at one point haha). Well, if it doesn’t work, then it just doesn’t work…. I think you’ve given it way too many tries at this point lol. Can you at least return it?

      • Sunny says:

Yeah I know. I totally freaked out! Fortunately it was a sunny day, so I could hide me eyes behind sunglasses. All along my lash line on top of By Terry Bronze Moon (which has excellent staying power)! Imagine that!

Unfortunately there is no returning anything here. Some stores accept returns if the products are brand new, but that’s about it. I’ll probably give it to a friend who is curious.

  • Kira says:

I was going to try out the Josie Maran mascara as well, but the formula seemed much too wet for my liking, although the packaging is quite cute!

  • Liz says:

I know without even trying that both eye products will smear all over me, lol. But I did give the foundation a try and it’s pretty nice. :)

  • Sylirael says:

I wish I could try more foundations in mini form! Obviously we don’t really get samples of anything here unless there’s a GWP, and most brands don’t even have those! Lancome, Estee Lauder and Clinique are the only ones that actually really do GWPs, now that I come to think of it!

Anyway, that’s beside the point. You know what freaked me out the other day? When I walked around the corner in Smith and Caugheys and came face to face with the person-sized model of the Benefit liner. It was HUGE! Kind of surreal, actually. Felt like I’d stepped into a Lews Carrol book or something. If Lewis Carrol had known about Benefit. :-P

    • Jaa says:

I really think brands should make all of their foundations in mini size!! I mean, don’t you think it kind of makes sense? It’s the one product that you will use all over your face everyday and you kind of need to make sure that it will not irritate your skin and stuff.

LOL you should give the big liner a big bear hug!!! And take silly photos and do silly things with it!!!!

  • Dee says:

Probably late to the party but love the new look of the site Jaa! And these types of posts are so cute. Oh and now that Im back how I can finally load your site on my computer lol. It just refused to work on any of my mobile devices when I was away!

    • Jaa says:

Ooopss! I’m sorry you were having difficulties viewing my site, Dee! Do you remember what it says when you try to load? Or it doesn’t say anything at all and just not load? I need to know so I can try to fix it! :)

  • Grace says:

    Hi Jaa,
The Laura Mercier foundation sounds really good. I might go and check it out soon. I heard so much mix reviews about the Benefit liner. I am not good at doing liquid liners in the first place so not sure if I should get it or not. If I get it, I will let you know what I think of it:)

    • Jaa says:

Hmm… it’s actually a little more difficult to use than liquid liners in my opinion. Maybe after you have mastered the liquid?! But then again, I’m not very good at applying liquid liners either and I can still get this thing to work for me just fine. ;D

Do try the LM foundation, though! Good stuff!

  • Krithi says:

since benefit eyeliner has got mixed review ,buying a mini would be an awesome idea :)
if it works like the way it worked for u ,i will definitely buy the full szie :)

  • Erin says:

I hate smudgy mascara… I have moderate sized eyes but they are deep set with little lid space and decently long lashes. My lashes will easily touch my brows with a non lengthening mascara. If a mascara smudges I look like I have black greasepaint around my eye. Not fun.

    • Jaa says:

Oh how I wish my lashes would be long enough to touch my brows, too! You have gorgeous eyes, Erin! And yep, this smudgy mascara would not be a good option for you, unless you don’t mind the extra step of coating your lashes with a lash primer first! It seems to help!

  • Carolyn says:

Yikes about the Josie Maran mascara smudging so badly! And, I’m really glad that the Push-Up Liner works so well for you!

  • I’m sorry the Josie mascara ran and smudged. I get almost indignant when mascaras do this! It’s 2014! Why are mascaras still smudging? I think I might get the mini size of that Benefit liner. You’re really selling me on it! :)

    • Jaa says:

LOL right?!!!! I hope you will like the liner but definitely get the sample size first if you can. I feel like I’m in the minority who can actually get it to work. LOL.
