ABOUT MAKEUP MINI SERIES
Makeup Minis is where I feature deluxe samples I received with my online and/or in-store purchases. I'll give you a short description of the product, my initial impression and whether I plan to purchase a full-sized version. I am only listing 3 items per volume to keep the post short and fun! :)

Boscia Tsubaki Cleansing Oil-Gel

Boscia
Tsubaki Cleansing Oil-Gel

I feel meh about this cleanser. It removes general/everyday face makeup well but it is not at all effective at taking off eye makeup especially long-wear or waterproof ones. It has a clear gel consistency that lathers into a mild milky texture. It rinses off well and doesn't leave any film/residue on the skin although my face feels slightly dry afterwards. I can't say I like the scent, either. It smells sort of chemically and herbally — really not a good mix at all. And oh, it stings if it ever gets in the eyes! Can't say I am impressed with its performance.

Full-sized purchase? Probably not

Clé de Peau Brightening Serum Supreme

Clé de Peau
Brightening Serum Supreme

I was ecstatic to receive a deluxe sample of this super expensive face serum! It is supposed to help brighten dark spots, even out skin texture, and improve the skin's appearance over time but I'm afraid there is not enough product in the bottle for me to use to see visible results on my skin. The serum itself, though, is such a pleasure to use! Lightweight, spreads easily, absorbs instantly, and it has this really nice, perfume scent that is mild and does not linger. I'd really love to buy the full-sized bottle but the high price tag is a litte… ouch!

Full-sized purchase? Possibly!

Clinique Lash Doubling Mascara

Clinique
Lash Doubling Mascara

This mascara, I just don't get all the hype at all. There are things that I love about it such as the long and tapered wand that gets into the corner lashes really well, the jet black formula that is light, smudge-free, non-drying, non-flaky, and not weighing my lashes down but the performance is really just mediocre. It doesn't “magnify my lashes to twice their size” in anyway as claimed by the company. It makes them slightly more noticeable but that's about it. There's no obvious lengthening, thickening, or volumizing effect that I can see.

Full-sized purchase? No

  • Hi Jaa,
that serum sounds like a real treat, maybe one day after I become a millionaire, I can use this one all over my body ;-)

  • Alice says:

Have not tried any of these products but I thought to have heard great things about the Boscia Cleansing Gels? That Clé de Peau serum however sounds lovely but the price tag is indeed … ouch, lol.

I received some CdP skincare samples a few years back, but I haven’t got around to trying them! I guess I am too afraid to discover something I love and end up having to sell a kidney LOL

  • Erin says:

I think the Boscia Makeup Breakup Oil is the best cleanser they have!

  • I tried that mascara as well and I wasn’t impressed by it either. I just didn’t get along with the brush. And my lashes definitely didn’t look doubled ;-)

  • Kimmy says:

Such a cute series. I do similar reviews with skincare and makeup minis but it’s not really a series. Grouping deluxe samples together like this is such a great way to test and talk about several products at once. I’m new to your blog btw, discovered in Nenta’s comment section. :-) I felt the same way as you did about the Boscia Tsubaki Cleansing Oil-Gel – it was just O.K. :-)

Thank you for stopping by, Kimmy! I love writing and reading reviews of mini products! They are just so cute! :D I agree about the Boscia cleanser… it hasn’t completely won my heart. :-/

  • Haha @ sunny’s comment.

I haven’t tried anything from the 2 brands. Clinique mascara are so okay-ish.

  • I love this series! It’s really awesome. :)

The claims the companies make with mascaras are ridiculous most of the time. And they usually come together with a photoshopped-to-oblivion and not-even-close-to-reality image. LOL.

  • Sylirael says:

Gosh, I’ve had two things recently that have BURNED LIKE THE UNHOLY FIRES OF HADES when they got into my eyes. It’s weird – I haven’t really had to worry about stuff like that since I was a kid learning how to shampoo my own hair – normally face/eyeproducts are formulated not to burn at all, let alone in such an unpleasant way. I mean, I try my best not to get any in my eyes, but I’d prefer less of the napalm effect if I do…

    • Jaa says:

Well the Boscia cleanser isn’t so bad after all because a few nights ago I tried an eye cream sample from this supposedly expensive brand and my goodness, it burned so badly! Such a shame I had to toss the rest. Was hoping I’d like it! :(
