I knew the moment I laid my eyes on the Marc Jacobs Style Eye-Con No.7 Plush Shadow Palette in The Lover 220 that this palette was probably not for me. But I still bought it, why? Well, I love (certain) pink shadows in general, so when you put a lot of them in one convenient palette, then it's just tempting. I guess I just love the look of it. Light, pristine, and very feminine, in the most minimalist way. For your reference, The Lover 220 is the palest option among all Style Eye-Con No.7 Plush Shadow Palettes currently offered!

Marc Jacobs Style Eye-Con No.7 Plush Shadow Palette is one sleek-looking palette! It is long, slim, and thus, very easy to handle. The lacquer-like, all-black ensemble adds the simple yet modern feel to the overall design. It opens with a light push on the silvery knob to reveal a full-length mirror and a black plastic insert that cover the eyeshadows inside. A matching black, fabric pouch (not shown, but exactly like this) is also included to keep the palette from scratches. And you might not know this but there is a very small sponge-tip applicator included with the palette, too. It is hidden at the very far end of the pouch!

The Lover 220 contains 7 eyeshadow colors that are mostly pink-themed with additional copper and brown shades mixed in. The texture is a healthy balance of matte (x3), shimmery (x1), and metallic (x3), all of which are of excellent quality. They apply with little to no fallout and blend seamlessly on the skin. They are superbly creamy and buttery to the touch especially the matte ones. They also adhere to the skin well throughout the day even without an eye primer, an observation I find to be true for all Marc Jacobs Style Eye-Con No.7 Plush Shadow Palettes that I own.

As mentioned above, this palette is pink-laden, and features only pale to mid-tone shades, which may not be ideal for everyone. For those with medium-dark to dark skin, you may find the selection too light and almost all the colors will probably look like nothing but highlighting shades on you. For those who live for definition, you will probably notice right away that this palette lacks a dark shade necessary for creating contrast. For those looking for uniqueness, you may find the colors lacking varieties and highly dupeable.

So, who would like this palette then? Probably those who:

  • really love pale pink and its subtle variation!
  • look for something extremely light and wearable
  • look for a lot of highlighting shades (medium-dark skin)
  • look for only mid-tone lid shades
  • love light and feminine colors
  • find their neutral palettes not neutral enough (seriously, you can't get any more neutral than The Lover 220!)
  • look for the most conservative/barely-there colors
  • are a Marc Jacobs Style Eye-Con No.7 Plush Shadow Palette fan ;)

I fall into a lot of these categories and that's why I didn't hesitate to buy it! :)

  • #1 – baby pink; matte
Soft and buttery texture. A nice base for brightening up the eyelid. It may look a little chalky on my arm but it performs much better on the lid. The color is opaque but blends out easily.
  • #2 – sandy pink; metallic
The powder is so creamy and finely-milled! Very nice color payoff. Can be sheered out as much as you need. Apply lightly for a thin veil of subtle metallic sheen or build up to a highly metallic finish. Gorgeous shade!
  • #3 – light caramel sheen; shimmery
This color actually has delicate gold flecks that for some reason don't show up well on my arm swatches. Being slightly sheer (but buildable), I like to pop this color on my lid as a final step to add a little bit of sparkliness to the eye look. I love how it blends flawlessly with the other shadows.
  • #4 – apricot-rose; matte
Another nice matte that's not powdery or chalky once blended on the eyelid. It has a nice and buildable color payoff. I like using it as a transition color.
  • #5 – copper rose; metallic
This color may seem out of place at first but I actually appreciate that it's included in the palette! I think it makes the palette a little more exciting as you now have the option to create a metallic coppery-brown look in addition to pink. The texture is superb! Dreamy soft and highly pigmented. Also blends out really well while leaving a truly gorgeous metallic sheen on the lid.
  • #6 – seashell pink; metallic
Similar texture as #5. Soft and buttery with amazing pigmentation. This is my favorite shade! Foolproof, a breeze to use, blends well, and builds up easily! It isn't as metallic and bright as the #5, though, which is fine in my book. Otherwise it could look a little stark on my skin.
  • #7 – cappuccino/medium brown; matte
The darkest shade of the palette although I think it was meant to create “subtle contrast” rather than obvious outer corner definition. It blends in really well with the rest of the palette (maybe a little too well!). Love the texture. Very soft and silky without being chalky or powdery.

For this eye look, I applied seashell pink #6 on the inner two-third of the lid and followed with copper rose #5 on the outer one-third. The outer corner was subtly darkened with matte cappuccino #7. I used apricot-rose #4 as a transition shade and baby pink #1 as a brown bone highlight. To finish, I dabbed sandy pink #2 lightly on the inner corner and smudged copper rose #5 along the lower lash line.

Notice how the colors are so light and subtle on me? They are barely-there but there, which is sometimes all I need. For a little definition, I like to pop in a blackened brown eyeliner along my upper and lower lash lines. Otherwise my small eyes would look too naked! The Lover 220 is supposed to be a limited-edition shade but it's still available online last time I checked. Coming up next is a review of The Vamp 208 which is a whole lot more colorful. I can't wait to create a fun look to share with you!

  • Erin says:

I like them but I think if I want a pink palette I’d still go to the Naked 3.

  • Judging from the look you created that palette was made for you. It looks so fresh!

  • Sunny says:

Hey Jaa, I love this on you but it’s most probably too light for me! Can’t wait to see the other palette tho!

    • Jaa says:

This palette is not for everyone for sure! The colors are really light so I understand your concern. The other palette is much more pigmented and colorful! :)

  • Kimmy says:

The palette is beautifully presented but probably not for me. I do love the soft and subtle look you created with it though. :-) x

  • Beauty bloss says:

While this Palette is not for me, I do really like the MJ shadows. I have the Lolita and it’s brilliant. I do like the eye look you’ve done!

    • Jaa says:

The Lolita is next on my list! As well as the Enigma! I like MJ eyeshadows, too. I think their formula is superb! :)

  • It’s really pretty, but I think I’m with Erin on this. I think for me Naked3 really nailed the pinks. However, I still think you created a really pretty, soft look with it.

    • Jaa says:

Thanks, Lisa! UD Naked 3 is my favorite pink palette of all time! ❤ I’m secretly hoping that they make a Naked 3.1! LOL! One can wish right? ;D

  • Lily says:

Hi Jaa, I LOL-ed when you said it’s not for you but you picked it up anyway. hahaha! It’s also not for me… I prefer palettes with a variety of depth and this one seems to have all the light colors. And PINK. Erm, I just don’t really like pink eye shadows :-P

    • Jaa says:

LOL no?? How come?? I blame the Naked 3 for my pink shadow obsession! I never thought I’d ever look good in pink shadows but that palette completely changed my perception!

  • This is a lovely eye look, very light and fresh. This palette appealed to me a lot but when I really sat down to consider it, I just didn’t think I needed it based on how light most of the palette was. That being said, I think it’s beautiful and will be a big hit with a lot of people!

    • Jaa says:

Thanks, Kristen! I think my problem was I didn’t really sit down to consider it long enough! I saw, I clicked, and I bought. LOL I don’t know why it’s so appealing to me when the colors are all pretty light. I guess I’m just going through a “light and fresh and pink makeup” phrase! 555

  • Lulle says:

It is very pretty but I like to have a bit more contrast in a palette. Usually if I’m gonna go for a very subtle look, I’ll use one brightening shade on the entire lid and a light brown in the crease, rather than blend several mid-tone shades together. So I don’t think this would be a very useful addition for me!

    • Jaa says:

I normally prefer palettes that have at least one contrasting color as well. Of all the palettes out there, this one is probably the least interesting to have but for some odd reason, I was so drawn to it, hence the purchase. I don’t normally apply several of mid-tone shades at once, though, but when I review a palette, I try to use as many shades as possible so readers know what each color looks like once applied on the lid. ^_^

  • Now I answered all of these questions which is to check if I need this palette with a no, so I feel better. When I was in the states this year, I checked this one out and thought it is not for me (exactly like your described). But then I wanted it too (strange right, like you did too, why why??). Anyway I was lucky that it was sold out everywhere hah!

Now back to your eye look, love that copper along the lower lash line. It adds something to the basic look and makes it an interesting nude look. I really don’t think you have small eyes but if you want to make them larger why don’t you apply a lighter color along the lower lashline? Deeper shades make my eyes smaller.

    • Jaa says:

SO glad you’re with me on this! I know right? The colors are remotely unique but there’s something unexplainably alluring about this palette! I wasn’t as lucky as you, though, as I was able to get my hands on it. Haha

I guess what I was trying to say was I needed the eyeliner to give my eyes a bit of definition. Otherwise, with my already small eyes, I’d look too plain. :D

  • Meiko says:

Love the look you put together! I’ve never tried any MJ eye products before. I’m trying to restrain myself these days though these shades are what I would gravitate towards!

    • Jaa says:

You’re doing good, Meiko! There’s something about Marc Jacobs makeup that once you start using, you won’t be able to stop buying! I know I’m not the only one! LOL

  • krithi says:

wow u look so pretty …this is a nice palette
i have the lollita palette which i love the most :)

  • krithi says:

    haha …totally :)

  • Silke Laura says:

Not my cup of tea! Too pink for my likings and, as you mentioned, it lacks a darker shade. I would have to throw another palette into the mix. These palettes are so beautiful though, definitely need to have another look into the range. I forgot which one I liked so much!

    • Jaa says:

I’d definitely start off with something more colorful if you are just starting with the brand! The Vamp? The Starlet? :D

  • Liz says:

I like the brightening look on your eyes! Realistically, I can see myself using only two or three shades from this palette but you make a tempting case nonetheless!
