This is something that’s never happened to me before. A collection that I literally want to own every.single.piece. Everything about Nars Final Cut Collection is so beautiful – the promo images, the color selection (full of pink!), down to the product itself. Le sigh… I wish I had the funds to buy all of them!
Owing to my strong willpower, I limited myself and narrowed down to only 2 items that I really, really wanted the most. I chose the Adelaide Illuminator and a Satin Lip Pencil (review coming up!). I’ve never really been interested in any of NARS liquid illuminator before but when I saw Adelaide, I knew I had to make my first purchase!
Nars Final Cut is Nordstrom-exclusive (US) and a limited edition. Besides the illuminator, the collection also includes 4 blushes and 4 Satin Lip Pencils.
Adelaide is a super shimmering lavender pink liquid highlighter that has a lot of purple, pink, and white shimmer in it. The packaging is simple – clear squeezy tube with a black cap. The product has no scent that I’m aware of.
According to Nars artist tips, their illuminator is “a light-reflecting liquid that offers shimmering glow to brighten and enhance the complexion. It can be used as a highlighter as well as applied all over the face”. Well, considering the amount of shimmer, I wouldn’t dare apply it all over my face but I can see myself wearing it on my shoulders and décolleté on a night out for a gorgeous glowing skin! :)
The consistency of Adelaide is neither thick or thin and it spreads somewhat easily on the skin. It dries down rather quickly and applying it on top of powdered skin can probably lead to uneven application. What I do is, I apply a small amount on top of my foundation, then I set my makeup with a powder, and if I want to increase the pink intensity, I’ll just apply more. I find the result to be more natural-looking this way than applying it all at once.
I also find it best to apply it with my fingers and use a patting motion to deposit an even layer of the color on my cheekbones and continue in an upward diagonal direction. At first I thought the pink tint was going to be really sheer and I’d only see the shimmer bits on my skin but upon application, the pink turned out to be surprisingly quite pigmented! So, besides highlighting, I also like to blend it down my cheeks for a natural-looking pink flush as well! I absolutely adore the fresh-faced effect it gives! The shimmer is not overpowering at all and I’m glad that it can be used for both purposes (blush and highlighter) in one go! :)
It has a tendency to accentuate pores and highlight shiny spots, though, so I would avoid applying it on those areas. If sparkly cheeks is not your thing, you can apply just a small amount on the cheekbones above your favorite blush for a more subtle finish.
Oh, and don’t forget to shake the tube to distribute the shimmer before every use!
(Ugh.. I really don’t like my bangs!)
So, my first experience with Nars illuminator is so good so far! I didn’t think I’d love Adelaide this much but I’m so glad it turned out to be such a lovely product! Totally unexpected. :) It’s not that sparkly at all with careful application and the pink is just simply gorgeous. I urge you to try it at the counter first if you are still on the fence! I’m not sure how well it will show up on darker skin tones, though, so I’d look for swatches first before making a purchase (if buying online).
Have you bought it? If not, are you tempted to get one? :)
