Nudestix is a brand that believes in subtly enhancing your natural and unique features. Their motto is #gonudebutbetter which is pretty much the definition of my makeup style on a daily basis. Along with it they wanted to create a makeup collection that is easy-to-use, hence all their products come in a crayon form so that you can basically just swipe and go. The item I'm reviewing today couldn't be easier to use and contains 2 fundamental products aimed to bring out your best facial features. May I present to you: the Nudestix Sculpting Pencil!

Nudestix packaging is iconic; all the products come in a matte black tin box where the lid houses a full-sized mirror. Beside the makeup product in crayon form, they also include a pencil sharpener and instruction leaflet in every unit. The box can fit 2-3 other pencil products which makes it convenient for travel.

The Sculpting Pencil is a dual-ended crayon where one end is for highlighting and the other is for contouring. Both sport a creamy matte formula that is not only easy to blend but also contains some skin-nourishing ingredients such as Shea butter and Vitamin E. Additionally, it was formulated without Parabens, Sulfates, Phthalates, and fragrance.

Nudestix Sculpting Pencil is meant for “subtle contouring” and they mean it. They even stated on their website that it isn't meant to give “an intense color effect” so if you're into sharp and highly defined contour, then this is probably not a product you'll want to invest in. But for me, oh it's so my thing!

There are 4 shade choices; mine is Light/Medium 1 which is a collection of cool pinkish vanilla and taupe-y brown. I'm happy that it turned out to be a perfect option for highlighting and contouring for my current skin. To give the product a fair review, I'm going to describe each “end” of the pencil separately.

The highlighting end

I love how creamy and pigmented the formula is! It basically glides on and provides a gorgeous brightening color! It has a matte finish without any kind of shimmer. I honestly love the feel of initial application but I have to admit that my excitement wears off as soon as I start blending. It is wonderfully creamy but it tends to accentuate dry patches and settle into pores and fine lines. It also doesn't blend as easily as I'd like. It feels more like a thick concealer rather than a highlighter to me. My fix is to use less. Instead of drawing continuous lines, I try to apply in small dots and blend out with my fingers or Beautyblender. This seems to help me achieve a better application and the final look is much more skin-like than applying it full-on and risking it look cakey.

The contouring end

I am obsessed with the color! It's such a perfect taupe-y brown that looks so natural on my skin tone. The formula has to be one of the smoothest I've ever felt. It just glides right on the skin making it so much fun to use. The finish is also matte without shimmer which is ideal for contouring. However, just like the highlighting end, my excitement over the contouring end diminishes as soon as I start blending. OK, I get it that the brand wants everyone to embrace subtlety but this product blends out way too much in my opinion making it almost impossible to see any difference in before and after. For a hint of shadow, this works alright but for strong contour, this is not it. Maybe Medium 1 is not my perfect match after all and I wonder that my experience would have been different had I tried the darker shade.

Below I'm wearing the highlighter on my forehead, brow bones, down the center of my nose, and chin. The contour was applied under my cheekbones, down the sides of my nose as well as along the hairline and jawline. To give you the idea of how “pale” the contouring shade is, the subtle shadow you see on my face was from multiple layers!

The common drawback of both ends is that the tips get dull really quickly due to the creamy formula, especially so for the contouring end. I literally have to sharpen the tip almost every time after use and every time you sharpen it, you lose some of the product so it doesn't seem to have amazing value for the price. I'd be more happy if it came in a chubby size. I was able to get a solid wear for about 4-5 hours and after that it starts to fade slightly.

I give this product a ten for convenience and formula but for performance, I may have to deduct a point or two for the reasons stated above. The product was made to look like it's the easiest thing to use but I found that it required some adjustments along the way. For example, I learned to use less and blend more for the highlighting shade but use more and blend less for the contouring shade. Setting with powder also helps extend the wear time as the creamy formula can wipe right off even with the gentlest touch. The Sculpting Pencil may not earn my highest recommendation but I'm not in any way discouraged to try their other products. I have to admit, I'm sort of addicted to their crayon approach. It's actually really fun and convenient!
