I’ve been wanting to try this product for so long after seeing and hearing all the raves across the blogosphere. It finally showed up here in the US and I found mine at a local grocery store while shopping for err.. food… not sure how I ended up at the makeup aisle! :)
I picked up the new Rimmel ScandalEyes Shadow Paint in Rich Russet which is a beautiful metallic taupe brown. There are some other shades on the display including Slate Grey, Golden Bronze, Mercury Silver, and Manganese Purple but I went for Rich Russet because it’s the most wearable shade and I just wanted to test out the formula first before going crazy and buying all of them. The packaging is very similar to a lip gloss packaging with a long clear tube and a doe-foot spatula applicator.
ScandalEyes Shadow Paint is basically an ultra creamy liquid eyeshadow that leaves a metallic sheen of color on your lids. It can be worn alone as a wash of color or as a base to amplify the intensity of your powder eyeshadow. Advertised as waterproof and crease-proof with 8-hour wear but from my experience, it is not waterproof, only crease-proof. It has a thick and wet consistency that applies easily with incredibly intense color payoff, and with a little cooling sensation.
The formula dries down rather quickly so a speedy hand is a must during blending/sheering out the color. I suggest you apply and blend one lid at a time, and while you can use your ring finger to blend it out, I find myself using a small brush instead because I get a better control of where I want to place the shadow on my lid. When I used my fingertip, the application got messy and I ended up spreading the shimmer bits all over, not a good sight.
Once it sets, it’s not going anywhere. Period. No budging, no smudging, no creasing, no flaking! I’d say it performs very similarly to cream shadows that come in a jar which I also like to use but I think I’m starting to like this Shadow Paint a little more because it’s so much easier to blend and doesn’t tug on the skin on my eyes. All I need is just a tiny dab which is more than enough to cover my entire lid and a small soft brush.
It’s very simple to use and you can wear it alone for a subtle smokey effect for daytime. Add a little bit of eyeliner and mascara, and you are set! Perfect solution for pretty eye makeup during the morning rush!
I’ve been using this as a base also and I noticed that it does increase the intensity of my powder eyeshadow as well as the longevity. It adds a little extra shimmery effect to the otherwise basic shadow look. There is a ton of product in the tube, and considering you literally need just a dab of it per application, this product is going to last a really long time. And for the price, it’s a total steal in my opinion. I’m thinking of picking up Golden Bronze and Mercury Silver, too. I think they will look really nice for the inner corners as well as an eyeliner. :)
Have you tried these? Do you like them?
