Facial mist may be an optional product to many but to me, it's an integral step in my skincare routine! I love spritzing it on my face after cleansing to re-hydrate my skin. I've been a long-time user of MAC Mineralize Charged Water Skin Hydrating Mist (review) and Caudalie Beauty Elixir (review) but recently I thought I'd try something new for a change. I chose Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist because of its glowing reviews. Practically almost everyone who has tried it raved about it! But what about me? Is it something I'd add to my list of favorite facial mist? Keep on reading to find out! :)
With its beautiful, bluish-lavender glass bottle with gold accent, I'll have to say Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist wins in the packaging department! Sure, it isn't quite travel-friendly since it's made of glass but it sure looks nice and pretty sitting on the vanity. A bonus point is the transparent section at the bottom (where the lavender print fades into clear) to let you know how much product is left. I love how the spray nozzle spritzes the product into ultra fine mist delicately and evenly across the face. I also appreciate that the nozzle feeder tube goes all the way to the bottom so that you can get every bit out!
Squalane, red algae, and Tatcha's trademarked HADASEI-3 complex (which is a proprietary blend of Okinawa red algae, Japanese rice bran, and green tea complete DNA extracts) for hydration and antioxidant benefits
Other noteworthy ingredients:
Silk extract, licorice root extract, natural fragrance, sodium hyaluronate, and alcohol
Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist is unique and different from other facial mists in the sense that it actually feels like a rich moisturizer in a spray form rather than your typical plain alcohol-water mist. In the bottle, it looks like a silky, milky white emulsion but once applied on the face, it becomes practically transparent as seen below. The product has a strong red algae scent that dissipates quickly upon application.
The product can be misted onto the face (and body, too, I suppose, but that could become a bit too expensive!) for an instant luminous, dewy-skin effect as well as for a major boost of hydration! And since it contains very low amount of alcohol, you can expect the glowy-skin effect to last for several hours. To use, simply give the bottle a gentle shake and spritz it on your face at arm's length. Three spritzes are generally enough for most people but I find myself limiting to only one small spritz and I'll tell you in a moment why I need so very little.
The many ways I use Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist
- After washing my face to re-hydrate the skin
- On bare skin or post-moisturizer for a natural, glowy look
- Over makeup (post-foundation or post-powder) to replace the one-dimensional/dull/flat/powdery look with a dewy-skin effect
- Before facial mask to prep and soften the skin
- During the day to replenish moisture and/or to maintain the luminous look
I have also tried using it as a makeup setting spray but I didn't find it to significantly extend the longevity of my makeup. It isn't marketed as a setting spray, though, only a hydrator.
On the product's page, it says that this mist is only ideal for dry and combination skin. I have combination-oily skin and what I've found is that, this product tends to be a little too moisturizing for me. If I use too much or spray too close to my skin, I can feel the product forming a thin “film” resulting in my face looking rather oily than dewy. The product can feel a little tacky, too. Let's just say it's not a very comfortable feeling for me. Perhaps I'm just used to the refreshingly light feeling of the Caudalie Beauty Elixir that quickly evaporates and doesn't leave any residue post application. Sure it doesn't give the same level of moisture the Tatcha Mist does but it sure doesn't feel like it's just sitting on my face even when I apply it heavily.
To fix this, I simply have to be very light-handed, spray it as far away from my face as I can, and only use one small spritz! It sounds troublesome right? And you're probably wondering why I even bother with it then. Well, nothing gives me a mega long-lasting dewy look like this mist does and I find the small hassle worth the trade-off!
The radiant, luminous effect is just plain gorgeous. Don't believe me? Look below in the After shot. My skin looks much more healthy with a hint of dewiness on my face! And as a bonus point, I don't find it to disturb my makeup in any way (but it doesn't prolong it, either). Additionally, I have not encountered any kind of irritation or breakout after using it on and off for several weeks.
Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist may not be the product I plan to integrate into my daily skincare routine (for the reasons stated above) but for occasional lovely dewy effect that lasts, it is the first product I grab! Those who have dry or normal skin, work in an air-conditioned office, travel often, or live in a drier environment may benefit from the mist more with regular use. I know for sure if I were still living in the US, it would probably be something I keep handy to fight the dry, cold air! :)
