I realized that summer is coming to an end but I hope it's still not too late to review a bronzing powder! I have been using this product for months but I don't know why I waited so long to review it. Sometimes you just overlook the closest things to you I suppose! :)

First and foremost, the packaging! The Tom Ford Bronzing Powder compact is huge (and quite heavy)! It is square with round edges, wide, and flat and has a reflective mahogany shell with a gold trim design. Inside is an equally large mirror and a bronzing product in a round pan situated in the middle of a shiny gold surface. There is a Tom Ford logo embossed on what appears to be a front clasp but it's not really a clasp. It's more of a long “bar“. I think you will find the packaging either luxurious or flashy (and excessive). I haven't decided yet. ;D

The compact is magnetic and can be opened by simply holding down the corner of the bottom panel with your thumb's fingernail while lifting the bottom of the “Tom Ford bar” up with your other thumb. Use the rest of your fingers to support the weight of the palette while opening. The reason I am explaining this in details is because I have read a lot of reviews where they reported the compact is difficult to open when it really isn't! :) Once you get a hang of it, it actually feels very smooth to open and close.

A suede-like leather protective pouch is included with the compact and comes in a matching mahogany color with Tom Ford embossed on the front.

Tom Ford Bronzing Powder comes in 2 shades — Gold Dust (shimmer) and Terra (matte). Both are permanent and contain 21 grams (0.75 oz) of powder. I am reviewing the matte Terra today.

What I like most about Terra is its cool-toned neutral shade. It's one of the very few bronzers that doesn't turn orange on my medium skin with yellow undertones. The level of pigmentation is light which makes me like this bronzer even more. I can apply it subtly to add a hint of warmth to my complexion. I can also build it up to accentuate the contours of my face and it still won't look overdone or muddy even when heavily layered.

The powder is finely-milled but doesn't feel powdery at all. It is incredibly soft, silky, and smooth and practically “melts” into the skin as soon as you apply. Blending is almost unnecessary especially if you use a big fluffy brush (such as the brand's own Bronzer Brush). Unlike most heavily pigmented bronzers where it can be quite a task to diffuse hard edges, Terra goes on light and takes almost zero effort to blend. I wish I were exaggerating but with Terra, it barely takes any skill at all to achieve natural-looking results.

Terra doesn't emphasize acne scars on my cheeks, nor does it accentuate pores. The application is always so smooth and seamlessly diffused, never a muddy, patchy, or streaky application! It lasts well throughout work days on my combination-to-oily skin, too.

Terra can be used to “sculpt” the face, too. And I like it for this reason a lot. Sometimes I just want to contour my face without necessarily “bronzing” it. Being cool-toned and matte, Terra can really create a believable illusion of a perfectly sculpted face without making you look like you've just applied layers and layers of bronzer on your face.

Terra is hands-down my most favorite powder bronzer to date. It is just so easy to use and doesn't require major skills or fancy tools to achieve seamless and natural-looking results.

Being that it's Tom Ford, a steep price tag is unavoidable. Some reviews will say that if you do the math, Terra will come down to only $126/oz versus $135/oz of the Nars Laguna but in reality, Laguna is much more pigmented than Terra and will require much less product per application (at least on my medium skin). To achieve the same “intensity”, you will probably have to use quite a bit more of Terra so at the end it isn't really less expensive at all.

My point is, it is an expensive bronzer. Period. But one with phenomenal performance and that therefore is truly worthy of investment. I wholeheartedly recommend Terra to anyone who takes bronzing and contouring very seriously! :)

Terra looks lovely on you, Jaa! I’ve thought about this bronzer before, but ultimately couldn’t stomach the price, especially considering I already have a few other bronzers in my stash. Thanks to your review, now I won’t have second thoughts about this as NARS Laguna is already not pigmented enough for me (it hardly shows up on me)!

    • Jaa says:

Thanks, Carolyn! It is pricey for sure and if you already have something else you’re happy with, I don’t see a reason to pay crazy amount of money for it! Nars Laguna doesn’t show up on you?! That’s new! Well, you can certainly give this one a pass then. :)

  • Fiona says:

This sounds luxuriously ahhMAZING!!! Looks so good on you Jaa!

  • Laarni says:

I srsly thought the featured photo resembled as a knife. I was like, “a Tom Ford knife?” Why not? Haha. Anyway, the packaging screams luxurious! I i love this color that gives a natural look on you. I love bronze! I’ve been using the one from NYX, and I want to continue learning how to contour! It was interrupted because of the acne but I am now ready! Let’s contour!

    • Jaa says:

Yeah, with acne scars on the cheeks, I am very picky about what bronzer I use. This one doesn’t emphasize them so I’m super happy! Yes, let’s contour! ;D

  • Sunny says:

Hey Jaa, I’ve never really looked into TF bronzers at all! I’m pretty happy with my Dior and Guerlain ones ;) This shade is indeed great for contouring though! I think those with fairer or cooler skin tones will really appreciate it!

  • Ten out of ten, ack! What a beauty… And it does look very believable yes.

  • Liz says:

I’m not a huge bronzer fan and haven’t yet tried Tom Ford, but some day. :) That compact is ridiculously gorgeous (and thin)!

  • The color looks light in the pan but is gorgeous on you !
Every time i see a TF beauty product, it’s lovely !

  • Love the sleek compact design and the fact that this one is cool toned enough to work well for you! Oh and gurl, it’s never too late to review a bronzer – I use one year-round so reviews and photos as gorgeous as yours are always appreciated! :D

  • Erin says:

I think Tom excels at the line between flashy and chic in all things. It’s pretty much his MO. I’ve been looking for a more neutral bronzer because my skin has a hint of coolness to it so most bronzers look muddy or orange on my skin. Guerlain has some peachier ones that work. I’m currently using Bobbi Brown’s but it’s a bit too warm accept in the height of summer when I’ve already gotten a touch of natural color. This might be worth swatching. I’m interested to see how it handles my skin texture as well as tone.

    • Jaa says:

Oh I think this one might be what you’re looking for, Erin! It’s very cool-toned and could work really well on your cool skin tone! I’ve heard good things about Bobbi Brown bronzers but I haven’t tried one myself. Next on the list for sure! :)

  • Grace says:

Look at that packaging! Terra is really suited to your shade Jaa. I should really finish my current bronzers first before I buy more. Marc Jacob has a similar one in terms of packaging. Have you seen that one?

    • Jaa says:

I have the Marc Jacobs one! My bf bought one for me a while back. ^_^ It’s another great bronzer and I will have a review up soon. The size of the compact is almost identical! Flat and wide!

  • Sylirael says:

SO ELEGANT. If that last photo was your job application one at Rogue Industries, I would totally give you that tenured position in Research Awesomeness. Instantly.

I love how this ‘bronzer’ is so soft and ‘pink clay’ looking. No hit of that orange that I dislike so much in bronzers. Bronze isn’t even orange. Maybe they should make a customisable bronzer where you can choose the amounts of copper and tin? ;-)

    • Jaa says:

LOL Syl! Thank you! Research Awesomeness?!!! What are the job duties?!! ;D

Pink clay looking is exactly this bronzer is! I fell in love with it for this very reason actually. It’s so much different than anything else I have. It adapts so well on my skin and I just love how natural-looking it is.

I can’t stand orange bronzers, either! Boo! :D

  • Kira says:

Beautiful! The packaging looks expensive to me in the pictures, but I’m not sure how it looks in real life. I have a similar skin tone to yours, so this will most likely be my next bronzer purchase! I can’t stand orange, muddy looking skin.

  • Krithi says:

    Love the luxurious packaging
Lovely you , looking very pretty

  • Alice says:

I’ve heard such great things about this beaut but I honestly can’t handle its price tag. What if I fall head over heels in love with it? Imagine I want to repurchase it over and over again, haha. That thought scares me, haha! I’m sticking with Nars for now! ^^

    X Alice

    • Jaa says:

I had a hard time submitting my order. LOL. I don’t use bronzer every day, maybe a couple of times a week so I’m sure it will last me a few years. But if you use it daily, and/or quite a bit each time, it might not last as long.
