Review & Usage

Sephora Brush It Off Cleansing Brush Wipes are pre-soaked brush cleansing wipes individually wrapped in small, portable foil packets. There are two sizes available: 6 packets and 18 packets, although at the time of writing, the 6-packet size seems to be out of stock. The type of cleanser was not disclosed on Sephora website but it is non-alcohol-based and contains “Isododecane and Caprylyl Methicone“. The wipes do not have any scent that I can detect. They are not overly soaked with the formula, either, which I'm glad to see, otherwise they would create quite a mess during use.

Depending on the type of makeup you wear, one wipe is generally enough for 4-6 smaller brushes (such as eyeshadow and eyeliner brushes) or 1-2 bigger brushes (such as blush or foundation brushes). However, if your brushes are packed with rich/dark pigments, you may be needing one wipe per brush which can add up to the already expensive price at almost a dollar per packet. This is not a very economical option to routinely clean your brushes. I'd reserve it for in-between washes or for travel only.

To use, simply unfold the wipe and lay it out on a flat surface, then swipe the brush bristles back and forth gently on the wipe to clean. Rinsing is not needed. Simply air dry the brush for next use.

Performance-wise, I think they work effectively and quickly at removing the majority of makeup build-up off the brush, just don't expect them to thoroughly clean the way regular brush washing with a real cleanser (soap or liquid) does. You will still see a little bit of residue left on the bristles but not enough to cross-contaminate your next makeup look. The formula leaves a slightly oily touch but you can get rid of that by wiping the cleansed brush on a clean tissue or paper towel. It doesn't take long, probably a good 10-15 minutes, for a smaller brush to dry completely and be ready to use again. I haven't noticed my brush bristles drying out or becoming brittle from these wipes so that's another plus!

Handy, convenient, work in a pinch, I think these wipes are perfect for taking with you on the go. It will save you time and space from having to pack too many brushes! I'd still recommend deep cleaning your brushes with an appropriate cleanser regularly to ensure that they are clean and free of makeup build-up that can cause breakout and/or infection.

It'd be nice to see these wipes in bulk packaging and at a more friendly price, though! I'd totally be into that! :)
