I recently picked up two items from Urban Decay Summer 2014 Collection. One is the Electric Pressed Pigment Palette (which I still haven't quite figured out what to do with it yet because the colors are way out of my comfort zone! :D) and the other is the Ink for Eyes Waterproof Precision Eye Pen in Perversion which I am reviewing today. I have the 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Perversion and I absolutely love it. The black is so saturated and opaque and it's one of the blackest pencil eyeliners I own. So naturally, I have my expectations for the liquid formula. Is it as awesome as I had hoped? My review may surprise you! :)

There's nothing fancy about the packaging. Just a plain, shiny surface, black pen. But what's interesting is the tip! It is an ultra-fine felt tip that feels a lot firmer than my other liquid eyeliners. Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner has been my holy grail product and the close second is Marc Jacobs Magic Marc’er Precision Pen Eyeliner. I have yet to find anything blacker than these two and if you have used either of them, you know how soft their felt tip is. They offer the smoothest application across the lid with absolutely no tugging or pulling, while delivering the most intense black you can ever achieve in a liquid eyeliner.

While the color of Urban Decay Perversion Ink For Eyes is almost just as black and saturated, I can't say it provides a comparable level of “smoothness” during application. I find its tip too firm for my liking. It is not as smooth and flexible as the Stila or Marc Jacobs where you can just “flick” the tip to create wings.

I also noticed that the liquid does not seem to flow to the tip as smoothly as the other two. I usually have to go over the line multiple times to get the same intensity that I can normally get with the other two in one pass. The extra firm tip, together with the less-than-ideal liquid flow, results in spotty application as well as the unavoidable tugging and pulling on my lids. I do hope, though, that with continued use, the tip will soften a bit and the liquid will flow a little more smoothly! :)

But there are some good things to say about this eyeliner, too!

What's superior about the firm, ultra fine tip of Urban Decay is you can really create a super precise cat-eye and draw sharp, super “razor-thin” lines. You can also wiggle the tip in between lashes to create an illusion of thicker and fuller lashes without having to line the lid — perfect for the absolute “no-makeup makeup” look. And you can even use it to “draw” fake lashes by applying in short strokes — something that you probably can't do with the other two without looking obvious. Not to mention that firm tip also means it's harder to fray over time! :)

The formula dries down to a waterproof, slightly shiny finish that stays smudge-free for all day wear so I have no complaints in the longevity department.

Comparison to other black liquid eyeliners

Lancôme Artliner Precision Point EyeLiner

Overall, I think this product is a good option for beginners. The ink is not overly saturated and you can slowly build the color payoff. I'm not an expert at applying liquid eyeliners by any means but I have used more than my fair share of black liquid eyeliners available in the market. In all honestly, I can't say I am completely wowed by the performance of Perversion Ink For Eyes. It's a decent eyeliner at best, but definitely not a product I would give my highest recommendation for.

If you purchased this eyeliner, I would really appreciate you leaving a comment down below! If not, is this something you still want to give it a try?

Man I need a new black liquid eyeliner.. I ran out of my Bourjois one. I didn’t really like it because the tip was TOO hard.. Yet I felt like the Etude House one was a little TOO soft and flimsy.. LOL. How do you find the Etude House eyeliner?

    • Jaa says:

I actually like Etude House Drawing Show Brush Eyeliner that you sent me! The pigmentation is not as black as Stila or MJ, but I do like its soft & flexible tip! :)

  • Sylirael says:

I still want this so bad :-D I am currently using the Lancôme Liner Plume for a black liquid eyeliner, as it also has a felt tip (which I love). I would actually quite like a harder, more precise felt tip for doing exactly that ‘between the lashes’ trick you mentioned, as my pencil liners never really get sharp enough and I’m still a n00b with gel liner.

The only thing I ‘m wondering about is its longevity – my Lancôme one hasn’t dried up yet and I’ve had it for almost a year and a half! If I might only use this one for between the lashes, I guess it would take me a while to use it up, so I do wonder how long it stays good for…

Technically you’re supposed to throw away your liquid eyeliner after 3-6 months but I’ve been using my Marc Jacobs pen for 8 months now without any problem. Granted, I haven’t been using it everyday but I think it doesn’t matter how often you use it. Once you open it, the time bomb starts. Haha.

Hey Jaa, thanks for the review! I haven’t bought a liquid eyeliner for a while now. I appreciate having one around because it’s faster, but I can’t seem to fully embrace the “evaporating” feeling on my skin! I do like the finish of this one, but I understand that when the tip is too firm, it could feel like you’re poking yourself blind!

    • Jaa says:

Yep. I like liquid eyeliner for the same reason — it is fast! :D I wish the tip of this one would be just a tad bit softer, I’d like it so much more then. :)

Ooooh… Dior Addict Fluid Stick!!! Gotta check out your review now!

Looking forward to trying the precision eye pen! Thanks for the review.

  • Erin says:

I like this because of the reasons you mentioned in your pros section. I need to try the Stila one I think for cat eyes. I’ve never been able to do one successfully with other liners but I think it may have been they were too firm. I have deep set /wide set eyes with almost no lid space so eye makeup is a challenge in general!

    • Jaa says:

Your eyes are beautiful, Erin! Mine is the opposite. I have way too much lid space, lol. I truly recommend Stila if you want to perfect cat eyes! :)

  • Rachel says:

I was actually looking through reviews of the product online to see if anyone else felt the same way about the tip I do, and I was delighted to find that you do! It is just way too stiff and the placard at the store said it was great for cat eyes! I will have to go back to the stila to do my beloved winged liner.

    • Jaa says:

Oopss hi, Rachel! Sorry I just saw your comment! Sometimes WordPress doesn’t send email notification of new comment posts! -__-”

I’m so glad I’m not the only one! Everyone raves about this pen but I just find the tip a little too hard for my liking. I still use it from time to time, though, when I really want a thin line close to my lash line. :)

  • Shanon says:

Hi, I’m searching for a good eyeliner pen. What is your favourite and why?
    Thanks!

    • Jaa says:

      Hi Shannon!

My current favorites are the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner and the Marc Jacobs Magic Marc’er Precision Pen Eyeliner. I like them for their soft (but not too soft) and flexible tip, rich black pigment, and long-lasting power. :)
