Tom Ford Twist of Fate and Negligee Lip Colors Review & Swatches

Another day, another Tom Ford product! Well, my plan is to get all my Tom Ford Fall 2014 Collection reviews out this week. I hope you don't mind! :) Today I'll be talking about the brand new, limited edition Lip Color shades in Twist of Fate and Negligee!

Twist of Fate and Negligee have just been released as part of the Tom Ford Fall 2014 Collection. They have the same packaging and formula as the other Tom Ford Lip Colors. The consistency of these lipsticks is to die for. They are incredibly smooth, richly pigmented, and basically just glide on the lips without any resistance. And did I mention they have one of the sweetest vanilla scents? They smell divine! I wish the scent would last a little longer than a few seconds, though!

Both shades provide full coverage — one layer is enough to cover your natural lip color, even on pigmented lips like mine — but they don't feel heavy or thick on the lips. I don't find them to be drying during wear but they are certainly not hydrating.

Twist of Fate is an orange-based bright coral. I didn't expect it to be this bright judging from the tube. I thought it would be more subdued so I was a little taken aback when I first swiped it on. To make it more wearable, I like to blot after application to tone down the color just a bit. This shade brightens up my whole complexion really well and offers a more youthful look compared to Negligee. It has a satin finish with a soft lustrous shine that makes my lips appear fuller! I heart!

Negligee is a brown-based rose pink. I don't usually wear this type of shade for fear of looking too “mature” but somehow Negligee doesn't look too grown-up on me at all (or so I think). It is slightly deeper than my MLBB shade so when worn sheer, it's hard to tell if I'm wearing a lipstick at all. I think this is a classic “autumn” color that will be appreciated by a lot of people. I'm just not sure how I feel about it yet! Negligee also leaves a satin finish with a soft luminous shine.

A close-up look reveals microshimmer in both shades which may contribute to the “lustrous” look of the lipstick. They apply smoothly without accentuating dryness or settling into lip lines. I get about 4-5 hours of wear from both shades and from then on, they start to fade gradually and evenly. I like how the formula does not dry my lips even after the color wears off. :)

So what do you think of the two new shades? Do you think Negligee looks too grown-up for me? Which color do you like better? Are you getting anything from the Fall collection? Am I asking too many questions? :)

  • *I* think they both look beautiful on you, Jaa! Yep, it’s coming, don’t try to fight it… {{{{{Jaa}}}}} ;-)

OK, you can have a normal one too ((((Jaa)))). But only because you’re so awesome!

Anyway: I think if you compare the two, or pur Negligee next to say, KvD Lullabye, then Negligee is definitely a ‘job interview’ shade. But no-one said you had to look frumpy or old to get a job, just polished and elegant, which I think that colour makes you look!

Twist of fate is more fun, and I agree it brightens everything up. Also, it’s a coral, so… yeah. Automatic free pass, LOL!

    • “A job interview shade” – RIGHT ON!!! LOL! I’m sure it will come in handy pretty soon! ;D

      (((((((((((((((((((((Syl)))))))))))))))))))))

  • I think they both look good on you, though my personal preference is Twist of Fate! I definitely think there’s a place for Negligee, though, as it’s very much a “polished” and classic color. Beautiful photographs and great review as always, Jaa!

    • Thanks, Carolyn! So glad that you’re back!!! I miss reading your posts! ^_^ Yep, I prefer Twist of Fate as well but believe it or not, Negligee is slowly growing on me! :D

  • Love both the colors and TF lipsticks are luxurious
they are not available in India ,but whenever I travel i want to get atleast one lip product from them :)

    • Thanks so much, Krithi! I’m so happy you liked the photos! :) Oh you MUST try his lipsticks when you get a chance!!! I’m a huge fan of the formula. ^_^

  • I don’t need another coral, but I am still drooling over Twist of Fate! I don’t think I can pull off Negligee tho. Brown-based shades really age me, but it does look nice on you!

    • You.Must.Get.the.Twist.of.Fate.Period. LOL!!!! Seriously, Sunny. You *will* love it! But that would start the TF journey for you, which I don’t know it’s a good thing (for your wallet). ;D

      • I own a couple of TF lippies. Diabolique remains my favorite red! I am just a bit annoyed because there isn’t so much consistency in the line-up. Some are more hydrating and others less. If I have to shell out 50 euros for a lipstick, I want to be damn sure it’s out of this world!

  • Twist of fate is definitely one perfect lipstick, but negligee is just fall! It doesn’t make you look more mature, but a notch high classier . I love the detailling in the lipsticks themselves.

    • It always breaks my heart to swipe it on for the first time! I just don’t like ruining the beautiful engraved TF initials! T_T

  • If by grown up you mean .not 12 , yes it does lol. I kid I kid…they look gorgeous on you – both of ’em. I bought Nubile a while back and really liked it but thats from his shine range. Its not as pigmented as these. I keep saying I want Spanish Rose and should probably do myself and everyone else that I harp about it to a favour and just buy it already!! Jaa…your site still has issues on mobile devices (android and apple) :( I wasn’t able to use my computer for over a week and I couldn’t visit your site even thought I kept seeing all these amazing pics on instagram lol :( If you could please look into that…ty:)

    • OMG Spanish Pink is my second favorite shade from the line (my first is Pink Dusk). Yes, you should just get it already, Dee! ;D

What browser are you using? I have an iPhone, an iPad, an android phone and I am able to view my site perfectly (I tested it on Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and IE). Can you view it in a different browser? I wish I could look into it but it’s hard to look into it if I can’t see anything wrong with it, you know what I mean? LOL. At least let me know (take a screenshot for example) what you see (or not see) when you try to access my site on your device. :)

  • Both look great on you! My personal favourite has to be Twist Of Fate though. It brightens your complexion and is such a cheerful colour :-)

  • Negligee looks BUSINESS. Twist of Fate is more DATE NIGHT. PARTAY.
I love both on you, though I prefer TOF more! Makes you look more youthful and vivacious!! :)
