Benefit The POREfessional Pearl Primer Review & Swatches

Benefit The POREfessional Pearl Primer

I have reviewed a number of products from Benefit's POREfessional line on Hello Jaa but I'm surprised that I haven't reviewed their original POREfessional primer which is a cult favorite yet! In short, it's one of the best face primers on the market and one that I reach for often for a quick pore-covering task. It's so easy to use, smells great, and has a lighter texture than most face primers. It's well worth having on your vanity if your primary skin concern is pores. But for today, I'm going to give you a quick review on the new primer from the POREfessional line called the Pearl Primer. If you are a fan of the original, then you don't want to miss this one!

Benefit The POREfessional Pearl Primer is packaged in the same squeezy tube as the original but she comes in a girly baby pink ensemble rather than the blue one of the original. Shown here is a mini size that I purchased as a tester to see if I'd like it (and oh yes, I do very much!).

The Pearl Primer is oil-free, lightweight, and very silky (think silicone-y silky). It dispenses moderately thicker than the original but will melt slightly upon warming. It has a pearly pale pink color and a lovely smell (the same smell as the original) that lingers for a good while on the skin. This is a silicone-based primer so my advice is to use sparingly only on the area of concern. For me, I apply it only on my nose and inner cheeks where my pores are visible. Also make sure that you choose your makeup with a compatible formula (silicone-based) to avoid flaking/pilling.

I like the original primer very much but upon trying this new version, I think it's going to be hard for me to go back to the old one! To me, it really feels like a step-up from the original: thicker (in a good way) and so better at filling/covering pores, more mattifying, longer-lasting, and with added brightening effect!

I tried applying it alone on casual days and the brightening effect lasted pretty much throughout the day. It smooths away shine while making the area under my eyes appear more awake. My overall complexion appears smoother and my pores are definitely less noticeable!

Below is a close-up of me wearing the Pearl Primer on the after side. I don't have any makeup on, just my skincare and this primer. As you can see, the appearance of my pores is significantly reduced and my skin appears brighter.

Under foundation, the brightening effect is visibly muted and only the pore-minimizing effect remains. I tried to search for that pearly/glowy effect everyone was talking about but honestly, I didn't see it even when I looked up close in my Simplehuman Sensor Mirror. This is a good thing in a way as I don't want my pores to be emphasized by the pearly silica. Only the brightening effect is what I need and this primer delivers just that!

Have I told you that it handles oil better than the original, too?! It does! I'd say it keeps my oily areas matte for a couple of hours longer. It doesn't completely keep my face matte all day but I noticed that I only need to blot lightly once mid-afternoon and then I'm good for the rest of the day.

A little goes a long way with this primer and even with continued use, I think this little tube is going to last me a good couple of months. And after that, I'm definitely going to purchase a full size! :)

  • It handles oils better than the original? I wouldn’t have guessed that, I always figured with the “pearl” in the name the opposite would be true. I guess I need to get this one next once I am done with the original. Which is probably next year as you really only need a tiny amount.
