I was already a big fan of the original Bioré UV AQUA Rich Watery Essence sunscreen (blue tube) but I was even more excited when Bioré launched the BB version of it earlier this year and I knew I had to get my hands on it.
The new Bioré UV AQUA Rich BB cream doesn't feel anything like traditional Asian BB cream, nor does it feel anything like the original UV Aqua Rich sunscreen (blue tube). It is quite thick in consistency (but not as thick as most Asian BB creams) and is just slightly tinted. I detected a sweet (instead of citrus) scent which isn't anything too noticeable. It is enriched with Hyaluronic Acid and Citrus Essence to help keep your skin soft and hydrated.
Since it's much thicker and dries down a lot quicker than the original, I find it hard to spread out with fingers unless you do it really quickly. And because of this, I prefer using a traditional foundation brush first to spread out a thin layer on my face and then I use my fingers to gently “press” it down into the skin so it absorbs better. Sometimes I also “dilute” it down by mixing with a face moisturizer so it applies and sinks in faster, great for hectic mornings!
The finish is dewy and unfortunately with a white cast of the sunscreen. The color is definitely too light for my skin tone. When I originally bought it, I thought it was going to be transparent once absorbed, or maybe just slightly tinted. Sadly, not the case. My skin also felt a little bit heavy, possibly due to the added powder (oil-absorbing ingredients) supposedly to help keep your skin shine-free.
But the good news is, this BB cream is an excellent makeup primer because it does cover discoloration and smooth out the skin to give the appearance of a slightly brightened overall complexion. I normally top it off with a translucent setting powder to ease the thick heavy feeling. With this BB cream underneath, my makeup seems to last the entire day.
The SPF of 50 is nice, the PA+++ is nice, I just wish it was more “watery” as the name suggests. I also wish it wouldn't come in such limited shade range. It's worth mentioning too that this BB cream comes in a smaller tube than the original so if you are going to use it everyday, it could probably get a bit pricey.
