This winter I have rediscovered my love for the Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base all over again, thanks to the Winter Glow Collection where the product was re-promoted in a new, all-gold packaging! As gorgeous and luxurious as the gold packaging looks, I stay content and use what I have, which is the original gunmetal packaging version. After all, it's the product inside that counts right? :D
Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base is housed in a transparent, square plastic bottle with a cap that covers two thirds of the length of the bottle. The cap has the brand's iconic tartan design and closes down firmly with a loud click. The bottle itself has a pump dispenser that is lockable by turning the pump slightly to the left. I like Burberry packaging in general but this one has to be my favorite; sleek and simple, substantial and sturdy, and not to mention hygienic and travel-friendly, too! :)
Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base is a liquid illuminizer that you can use in so many ways. It comes out of the bottle frosty, pearlized champagne beige with lots and lots of ultra fine, multicolored shimmer but goes on nearly transparent on the skin. It leaves such a believable, fresh glow on the face that is free of obvious shimmer or glitter. The formula is lightweight, hydrating, unscented, and lotion-like, so it's easy to smooth onto the skin.
There are several ways you can incorporate the Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base into your makeup routine:
- Use it alone or mix with your moisturizer for an all-over radiance.
If you find your skin rather dull in winter, try applying the Fresh Glow with or after your moisturizer for an instant brightening and illuminating effect! This is what I do often during the morning rush. I don't find it to emphasize pores or fine lines at all so I just apply it all over the face and finish with a loose powder to set everything in place.
- Mix with your foundation/tinted moisturizer for added luminosity.
From my experience, I have better results mixing the Fresh Glow with my foundation rather than applying it as a foundation primer. The luminizing effect is so subtle that if I apply a foundation on top, it will just cancel out the glowy effect. I don't find it to interfere with my foundation color, consistency, or coverage in any ways so I just mix them together and apply in one step! It is also great when you want to add just a bit of dewiness to your foundation to keep it from looking flat. As I mentioned, the radiant effect is rather subtle so I would finish with just a light dust of loose powder to set.
- Apply on certain areas of the face as a spot highlighter.
If you're afraid that the Fresh Glow would emphasize your skin's texture, you can definitely try using it as a spot highlighter only on the higher planes of the face. It glides easily over foundation but I'd still try to use a dabbing motion during blending to avoid moving the foundation underneath. And if you have oily skin, again, I would recommend setting it with a loose powder so that it doesn't look overly shiny later on in the day.
And below is how it looks on me. On the right (After) is Fresh Glow mixed with the Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Moisture Foundation (review). If you look closely, you will see that my face on the right is slightly more dewy and glowy. The effect is extremely natural so you may not be able to see the difference in the photo but in real life, the glow is much more obvious! :)
Another bonus point for the Fresh Glow is that it hasn't made me break out or caused any irritation at all. It doesn't seem to prolong the wear of my makeup like a true primer does but at least I'm glad that it doesn't cause my skin to become overly shiny or oily later on in the day. I'm not sure why I stopped using it the first time around but this time it has already taken a permanent spot on my vanity! Burberry Fresh Glow in short is a luxurious bottle of healthy glow goodness that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a fresh-face, dewy skin! :)
