Lip & Cheek Bloom is a new cream blush from Burberry but before you brush it off as yet another cream blush, I ask you to take a closer look at this beauty! It has a texture unlike anything I've experienced before. It's not a cream-to-cream or cream-to-powder formula that we are familiar with. Instead, the brand opted to create a new and may I say rather unique texture that is so addictive and fun to use!
When it comes to Burberry, presentation is everything. The Lip & Cheek Bloom comes housed in an elegant square glass pot with the Burberry's distinctive tartan pattern printed on a shiny gunmetal twist-on lid. It's slightly weighty overall but it also makes it more sturdy. It is one truly stunning pot packaging! Well, can you expect any less from such a luxurious brand! :) Some reported that they had a hard time handling the square pot but to me, I don't find it to be any more difficult than opening and closing a typical round pot.
Color and formula
Reviewing today is No.03 Hydrangea which is a vibrant cool-toned medium pink. It does not contain any shimmer or glitter. In the pot it looks just slightly more coral than when it is applied on my cheeks, though. On my cheeks, it shows up as a true cool-toned pink. So much so that if I layer heavily, it can look almost neon-like! On most days, I usually apply just a couple layers to give my cheeks a natural flush-from-within look. :)
Burberry described the texture as airy and bouncy, so much so that it feels like the surface of a fresh petal when smoothed over on the skin. I find their description absolutely on-point but I'd also like to add velvety and mousse-y as well! Remember when I said it has such unusual texture? It's really hard to describe it exactly. It is very silicone-based but due to the airy, feather light consistency, you'll hardly feel any heaviness of the silicone on your skin. Another great point is it lacks detectable scent or taste so those who are sensitive to fragrances will really appreciate this.
The formula sheers out very easily but I wouldn't go so far as to say that it's effortless to blend. Due to its light texture, I actually find it a little tricky to blend, either with a brush or fingertips. It tends to leave a streaky and/or patchy finish if you put too much pressure during blending. For me personally, I like to pick up the product by lightly swirling my ring finger on it then dot onto the desired area on my cheeks. The best blending method for me is to use a really light and fluffy blush brush and try to be as gentle during the process as possible. The cream goes on with a silicone-slippery feel and gives you plenty of play time to adjust the coverage and intensity before setting to a super soft, velvety matte finish.
Wear time is exceptional on my combination-to-oily skin which is very surprising considering that most reviews deemed the product short-lived. I have worn it to the gym, out in a hot and humid weather, to a windy place, and it still looked intact on my cheeks at the end of the day. Over bare skin or foundation, with or without powder, it just lasts and lasts on me. I guess I'm just lucky? :D
How awesome is it that the Lip & Cheek Bloom can be used both on the lips and cheeks?! I know it performs so well on the cheeks but how does it do on the lips? That's the big question!
On the lips
Unfortunately, I feel that the formula is too slippery and thin to use alone on the lips! Couple with such a cool-toned pink, Hydrangea looks somewhat dry and powdery on me. It washes me out, catches on dry patches, and fall into lip lines. Not exactly a good look for me! And it barely has any staying power unless you wear it over a primer or lip liner. I can't say that it's a total disappointment, though, since I never expect any lip & cheek product to perform well on both places!
On the cheeks
Well, just like I mentioned above. It performs far and beyond on my cheeks. In the image below, I applied about 4 layers of Hydrangea so that you can see the color more clearly. For everyday wear, I usually tone it down to just a touch of pink! :)
Overall, I really like Burberry Lip & Cheek Bloom in No.03 Hydrangea a lot! It's everything I wanted it to be on the cheeks. I probably won't wear it too much on my lips for the reasons stated above. Whether you love cream blushes or not, I still think this product is absolutely worth a peek for its exceptionally unique texture and incredible wear time. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of product in the pot but you only need so very little per application! I think it's going to take me forever and eternity to finish mine! :)
