It gives me such happiness to know that I can now shop Burberry makeup at Sephora! I know some of you who want to try Burberry makeup but don't know where to start. Well, how about this cute little set that includes 3 bestselling items from the brand? I bought mine the moment I saw it online even though I already have one full-size item in the kit. What can I say? I love Burberry makeup and I love minis! There's no way I was going to pass on it! :)
Burberry Mini Beauty Box
So what's in this little Burberry Mini Beauty Box? (And when I said “little”, I mean little. You may be surprised at how small everything in the set is at first sight, be warned!)
- Burberry Kisses Hydrating Lip Colour in Military Red (0.035 oz. / 1 g)
- Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base in Nude Radiance (0.17 fl.oz. / 5 ml)
- Burberry Light Glow Contouring Powder Face & Eyes in Earthy Blush (0.08 oz. / 2.5 g)
- Burberry Mini Kabuki Brush with a protective velvet brush wrap
The kit was inspired by Burberry's runway makeup. It contains a trio of makeup essentials to create the brand's signature Burberry Glow look!
All items are displayed beautifully in a high-quality cardboard box that you can reuse for other purposes. When it comes to Burberry, they never skimp on packaging and presentation, even when the items are mini size, and I love that so much about the brand! :)
Burberry Kisses Hydrating Lip Colour in Military Red
First up is the Burberry Kisses Hydrating Lip Colour in a statement red called Military Red! Wow, what a gorgeous, gorgeous shade! Even if you don't wear red lips frequently, you'll still enjoy Military Red. It is a brightening kind of red that radiates youthfulness and freshness to the complexion. When I first saw the bullet, I thought it was going to be quite a mature red but I was glad to be disappointed! :D
Military Red is rich and saturated with pigment but still has some translucency in the formula. It applies sheer in the first coat, allowing your natural lip color to peek through slightly but you can easily build it up to a more opaque finish. I like how the formula gives you flexibility to wear it lightly or boldly. To make it more wearable on normal days, I like to dab it along the inner part of my lips and then sheer it out with my finger for a light blend of color. It leaves a satin finish with a lovely, luminous shine. It is unscented, free of fragrance and lanolin.
The consistency is such a pleasure to apply as it glides on so smoothly on the lips without tugging or highlighting lip imperfections. There is some slipperiness to it, though, and I recommend you wear it over a lip liner or primer for a more controlled and precise application. Military Red wears comfortably and is fairly hydrating for a red lipstick. My only qualm is that it has such short wear time. By the third hour, most of the color disappears from my lips already! Definitely pair it with a lip liner to extend the longevity.
Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base in Nude Radiance
I have already written an extensive review on this Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base in Nude Radiance on this page so I won't go into details here. Basically it's a liquid, subtle glow-enhancing illuminizer in a frosty, pearlized champagne beige color that you can wear alone on bare skin, mix with your favorite foundation, or apply over makeup for spot highlighting. It leaves a natural-looking, glowing effect to the skin with a fresh, healthy, dewy finish. If you are wary of most illuminizer being too illuminizing, then definitely give this one a try as the effect is very subtle (but still noticeable!).
Burberry Light Glow Contouring Powder Face & Eyes in Earthy Blush
Onto the item I am most excited about! I've wanted to try this Burberry Light Glow Contouring Powder Face & Eyes in Earthy Blush for so long and I'm so glad it was included in the set. Light Glow is a line of powder blush to promote subtle, healthy-looking radiance to the cheeks but Earthy Blush is such a universal shade that you can use it as a blush, an eyeshadow color, and even a contouring powder! It is on the lighter side, though, so I'm not sure if it will be noticeable enough on a skin darker than mine.
Earthy Blush is brilliant as a contouring color to sculpt the face. It is supposedly always used backstage of Burberry’s runway by Wendy Rowe (Burberry's Makeup Artistic Consultant). I tried it on my face and I have to agree that it has such a right balance of taupe-y/brown-ish tone to it that it looks very natural on. It also works as a lovely blush color as well as a transition/crease color on the eyes.
The powder is extremely finely-milled and feels almost like cream! It's so smooth to the touch and doesn't take any effort to blend. It leaves a soft, silky matte finish that doesn't ever feel or look chalky or powdery. The only thing I can think of that would put people off is the strong perfumed scent. I personally don't mind it but I thought it was worth mentioning!
Burberry Mini Kabuki Brush
It is so nice to see this little mini kabuki brush included in the set! And it even comes with its own velvet brush wrap! How very cute! :) The size is small, yes, but it's still easy to maneuver on the face. The bristles feel supremely soft on the skin and are made of natural hair. It fits nicely in the Light Glow Contouring Powder Face & Eyes compact, too! The brush picks up the color perfectly as well as depositing it on the cheeks. Such a great addition to the kit and how very thoughtful of the brand. It does make the kit worth even more in my opinion! :)
In the look above I used the Earthy Blush as a contouring powder along the sides of my nose, a crease color on my eyes, and a blush color on my cheeks. I mixed the Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base with my foundation; hopefully you can see that little bit of luminosity from it! And of course, on my lips is Military Red applied 3 layers on bare lips. I know I'd have achieved a more polished look if I had applied the lipstick over a lip liner but I wanted to show you the true color of the lipstick without interference from other makeup products.
Overall, I honestly think this is a great (and affordable!) starter set to introduce you to the world of Burberry makeup! It has all the essentials ready to create both simple and dramatic looks that requires barely any effort. My favorite piece from the set has to be the Earthy Blush. I'd gladly repurchase it as soon as I run out. :)
