Lip plumpers aren't usually something I'm interested in since I'm pretty much already happy with how my natural lips look. But you know how Dior always has a way to make you want to buy their products! I don't know what it was that made me cave, maybe it's the gorgeous pink color, maybe it's the packaging, or maybe it's the promised collagen-infused formula, whatever it was I somehow found myself wanting to try one! After all, I guess my lips wouldn't mind looking a little extra smoothing and plumping on occasion!
Dior Lip Maximizer isn't a new product. It has been around for a while but this Summer, Dior brings you two new limited edition colors: 006 Beige Sunrise and 007 Pink Sunset. Reviewed today is the 007 Pink Sunset which is a basic sheer pink color that goes on pretty much clear (no shimmer) on my pigmented lips. Perfect as a layering gloss that won't tweak your lipstick color!
The product comes in a standard Dior Addict transparent lip gloss tube. The applicator is a standard foam doe-foot that allows for a mirror-free, fool-proof application. It has a faint but refreshing mint-vanilla scent that vanishes quickly upon application.
A little bit about the formula
Dior Addict Lip Maximizer has a gel-like texture and is enriched with collagen and a rich blend of hyaluronic and marine-based fillers that supposedly helps improve the condition of your lips over time with regular use.
You can use it in so many ways, alone as a lip treatment, under a lipstick as a smoothing, plumping lip primer, or over a lipstick as a layering lip gloss for a fuller lip look with generous shine.
As a lip treatment, Dior suggests applying it alone for 15 days straight morning or evening (or both) for a long-term healthy lip benefits.
I first tested it as a lip treatment. I wore it to bed every night for a little more than 2 weeks (6-7 hours a night). At the end of the course, I noticed that fine lines on my lips were still there (I didn't expect a simple lip gloss to help with fine lines honestly, regardless of the claim), but I could feel my lips became more hydrated and overall just looked healthier. They were not as dry as pre-treatment and I no longer witnessed any dry spots.
For lip conditioning purpose, I do think this product works well but for long-term lip-plumping effect, I cannot confirm that it does anything. It's possible that I perhaps need to use it for a longer period of time to be able to tell.
When worn as a lip base/primer (I apply it before I start my makeup and only blot away the shine just before I apply my lipstick), I find that my lipstick glides on much smoother and seems to adhere better to the surface of my lips. The plumping effect is barely noticeable once there is a lipstick on top but at least I notice my lipstick's increased staying power.
In the photo below, I applied the Lip Maximizer over a sheer balm. The effect seen over a lipstick is similar but for illustration purposes, I wanted to show you that it goes on transparent on my lips allowing my natural lip color to shine through.
As you can see, the Dior Addict Lip Maximizer in Pink Sunset does indeed plump up my lips! They definitely look fuller and smoother than without and can we look at the gorgeous high-shine? I love it! It's not the sticky, hair-magnet type glossy, either. It really feels comfortable on. I detect a mild, minty cooling/tingling sensation in the initial wear lasting about an hour or so. As long as you don't overdose it, I think the tingling sensation is bearable. The plumping, glossy effect wears well for about a couple of hours before fading off, comparable to most lip glosses, but I continue to feel my lips in good, hydrating condition long after.
Pink Sunset may look like a simple clear gloss but it is one with added long-lasting lip-moisturizing and plumping benefits. If you're feeling splurgy, I think it's totally worth a look! :)
