Hurray! Another nude lipstick for me! Seriously we girls, how many nude lipsticks and nude eyeshadows do we really need? :) In this review, I'll be talking about the new nude lip collection from Hourglass (one of my favorite brands, by the way!) called Femme Nude Lip Stylo.
Does anyone else like the signature packaging of Hourglass as much as I do? I mean, it can't get any more elegant than this. The simple color scheme of dark metallic brown and gold – it's a total luxury. The new lip stylo is very chubby in size and a little weighty. It feels sturdy and quite substantial in hand. I bet when you whip this stylo out, girls will look at you and be like: “What is that thing she's holding? So luxurious-looking! I must get one, too!“. :)
It comes in a twist-up style so there's no need for sharpening. Just twist it up, apply, twist it back down, and recap. Simple, easy, and fuss-free. I'd advise you to only use the side of the pencil to fill in the lips, though, that way you can keep the tip sharp for outlining. It is packed with Vitamin E to keep your lips protected and moisturized and is formulated without parabens, sulfates, and phthalates – only the best for you when it comes to a cruelty-free brand like Hourglass.
There are 6 nude shades available in this collection to match your every “mood”, skin tone, and makeup look:
- Nude No. 1 – pale pink nude
- Nude No. 2 – honey beige nude with warm tint
- Nude No. 3 – medium rose nude with hint of pink
- Nude No. 4 – pink beige nude with hint of deep rose
- Nude No. 5 – golden peach nude with luminosity
- Nude No. 6 – deep mauve nude
I swatched all six shades on the back of my hand in a Sephora store which is notorious for having “bad lighting” (their lights have this yellow tint to it and it makes it hard to really see the difference between shades, especially when you are comparing these nude lipsticks where the difference of color and undertone is very minute). They are all wearable shades but I picked up Nude No. 3 for myself since it has more of a peachy/rosy undertone that I think would look most flattering on me and would not wash me out. It just seems to go well with my skin coloring than the other shades. No. 1 and No. 2 are definitely too pale for my taste while No. 4, 5, and 6 are not quite the “nude” I was looking for as they are on the slightly darker side of nude.
It is a full coverage lipstick with creamy, lightweight feel. The opacity is super insane, seriously, you can get fully opaque lips in just one swipe. The finish I'd say is a mix of matte and satin upon application and will turn into a complete matte over time. It goes on quite smoothly on exfoliated and moisturized lips. I don't find it to be drying at all but if it is for you, use a lip balm to help with the issue or top with a lip gloss to add hydration. Since it is quite creamy and opaque, it can slightly settle into lip lines so I usually follow with a gentle press with my fingertips to sheer out the color and to help it spread better and more evenly. Then I usually finish with a light layer of peachy lip gloss to add subtle shine. Applying it alone for a complete matte lip look is just lovely as well especially when paired with a dramatic smokey eye.
One thing I noticed about this lip stylo is the scent. It has this very synthetic lipstick scent that isn't very pleasing but it vanishes fairly quickly upon application. I also find that the wear time is pretty limited, probably a short few hours before you need to reapply. However, with a good lip primer underneath, this lipstick will last you the entire day.
If you are still on a hunt for that perfect nude, definitely give Hourglass Femme Nude a try. With 6 shades to choose from, there's a high chance you will find one that suits you. I love my No. 3 so much but being me I know it's just a matter of time before I go back to pick up a few more shades, well because, I need more nudes to match my every mood. ;)
