June 2014 Favorites

My favorites this month are mostly basic, everyday items! :)

Maybelline Fashion Brow 24HR Coloring Mascara in (L-R) Dark Brown, Yellow Brown, and Rusty Brown

I've been absolutely crazy in love with these brow mascaras! I love the unique round tip and soft bristles that make it super easy to tint each lash! They are highly pigmented, too, so it doesn't take more than a few swipes for my brows to become uniformly tinted. The waterproof formula dries down to a slightly powdery finish that is non-clumping, natural-looking and long-lasting. I wear each shade according to the makeup look I wear that day but my most favorite shade is, believe it or not, the Yellow Brown! I find the yellow tint softens the look of my brows really nicely. Unfortunately these are not available for purchase in the US but you can buy online at Sasa (link provided above).

Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Moisture Foundation in 113

This has to be one of my favorite foundations that provides the most skin-like finish! I like that shade 113 matches my complexion with strong yellow undertones nicely. The formula keeps my skin hydrated throughout the day, too! While the coverage is on the sheer side, it is quite buildable to medium while still maintaining a natural finish. It doesn't cover much but that's okay as I like my skin to be able to breathe just a little in the warm months. The only thing I am not happy with is the price per ounce. Ouch! But wow, it's oh-so-worth it! Read my full review here.

Clé de Peau La Beauté Enigmatique Eyebrow Pencil in 204

I lost count the amount of cartridges I have replaced! This is my first eyebrow pencil and it still remains one of my favorites of all time. The small slanted tip makes filling in brows quick and easy. The formula is pigmented, and sets to a soft, natural finish. My shade is 204 which has a grayish/ashy tone to it that blends in really well with my brow color (most brow pencils have brown/red tone to it that I find unnatural/too obvious on me). It isn't the most long-wearing brow pencil, though, and you have to buy the pencil and holder separately. Tip: pair this pencil with the Maybelline Fashion Brow 24HR Coloring Mascara in Yellow Brown for a soft brow look!

Benefit Sun Beam

I like to mix a few drops of this golden bronze liquid highlighter with my foundation for subtle radiance and to warm up my complexion for the season! If you are afraid to apply it all over, try dotting on the upper cheek area as a highlighter for a healthy glow. I like that the formula isn't too runny, so it's easy to control the amount for each use. It spreads really well on the skin. While Sun Beam is a product full of shimmer, when applied on the face, you can hardly notice the shimmer at all. I have a mini size here but you bet I'll be purchasing the full size when I run out! :)

Sephora Bronzed and Blushing Face Palette

This is a palette that I highly recommend for those looking to streamline their morning makeup routine or those who travel frequently! It contains a universal bronzer shade and two flattering blushes in one sleek, mirrored palette. I love that I can wear each shade alone as well as customize to make my own shade! The powder is soft, finely-milled, and nicely pigmented. All three of them actually last well throughout the day, too — how awesome is that! The best part is the unbeatable price! At $5 per color, this makes it a must-have product in my opinion! :) Read my review here.

I cannot believe that half a year is gone already! Can you believe it?! Besides visiting Thailand, I haven't really done much of anything else this year (well, besides blogging!). Next month will be the very first anniversary of hellojaa.com and I've been thinking of doing something special for my readers. Not sure what yet, though. If you happen to have any fun ideas, please leave them in the comments below! :)

    • I wish the Maybelline Brow Mascara were available everywhere! Such a great product that I want everyone to try! ^_^

I really love my mini Sun Beam bottle haha. So cute!

  • I’m sad that the Maybelline brow mascaras aren’t available in the US! Happy almost one year anniversary, Jaa, and congratulations!! As you know, I love your blog :).

  • Hey Jaa! I am in love with Sun beam too! I guess it suits us yellow-skinned ladies really well! :-) I wish i could lay my hands on Koh Gen Do! There is so much I want to try from the brand! :-|

  • Also.. 1 YEAR!? Dude! you are such a pro!! :-) congratulations and clearly you are doing bloody well!! :D So happy and proud of you! *hugs* :*:*

  • Hey Jaa! I have tried the Cle de Peau brow pencil, but my favorite remains the Hourglass one! This reminds me: a friend is coming over from the US next month. Must ask her to pick up a couple more for me! I have access to Hourglass online here, but every webshop that ships charges an obscene amount of shipping fee!

    • Hourglass is already so expensive to begin with, I can’t imagine having to pay extra for shipping, esp international shipping! That’s great that your friend is coming over, I’d ask her to bring me loads of stuff. LOL!

      • On top of paying the price with a hefty VAT… No I think not :p My friend isn’t into bags or makeup at all, but she’s nice enough to drag my stuff along LOL

        • Well, that’s really nice of your friend! :D What Hourglass products did you ask her to buy if I may ask? I’m nosy sometimes especially when it comes to makeup haha! ^_^

          • I’ll ask her to pick up 2 Soft Brunette brow pencils! I’ll be good for more than a year with those :) I try new brow stuff from time to time, but that’s still my HG.

  • Nice picks and I really like the layout of the products like that:) Thanks goodness for sasa lol. It’s like so much of the good (makeup) stuff is hidden from the western world!! Big congratulations on almost coming up on 1 year Jaa!! Very inspiring:) I’ll give the ideas on what to do some thought and let ya know.

  • I wonder if the Koh Gen Do comes in ‘slightly pink extreme vampire’? I was impressed by your review of it! :-D

I’ve never tried Sun Beam, but I have a little mini of High Beam around here somewhere….however, having only just realied that blush is a thing, I am most definitely still highlighter-impaired, LOL!

Congrats on the 1 year mark! *blows noisy streamer, pops champagne* I think you should do a fun roundup of the ‘best and worst from 1 year of beauty blogging’ (please, there must be a better name than that though :-P)! Could be anything from the experience, not just products!

    • Re: KGD – LOL I guess not! Although they do make a few shades with pink undertones!

Thanks for the ideas, Syl! I was thinking of doing something like that but when you think about it, 1 year is not that long at all. I don’t think I am experienced enough to really know what’s best and worst or give anyone any advice but I’ll give it a try!

  • Ok so I thought of somethings you could do . I think nothing says celebration on a blog like a giveaway:) but also you could maybe do a post on tips learned from your 1 year of blogging ( product photo tips, collage tips etc) , a round up on how you’ve grown, things that you want to do going forward etc. I think all that would be very interesting reading Jaa!

    • I’m definitely doing giveaways…. I’m just not sure yet if it should be in a form of products or Sephora gift card….

Tips learned from blogging sounds like something I can do! I have sooo many tips haha! How I’ve grown and future plans are also great ideas! Thank you so much for your super awesome suggestion, Dee! :D

  • Wow! Cannot believe it’s almost been a year of Hello Jaa-ing! YAY! Cheers to many more! The Sun Beam is one Benefit product I haven’t tried but sounds pretty delightful as a foundation mixer type ingredient to add warmth. I never do that b/c I forget! I must give that a try – thank you for the reminder! :)

    • I can’t believe it, either! ONE YEAR like ALREADY?! :D

If you want to try Sun Beam, I suggest getting a mini size first… because you only need so little each time and even a mini size should last ages! Hehe.
