L’Oréal Concentrated Lash Boosting Serum Review & Swatches

If you are looking to try a lash serum but are hesitating to spend a fortune, try L'Oréal Concentrated Lash Boosting Serum. This product is nothing new and it's been proven to work really well at lengthening your lashes. Plus, it is very affordable.

The serum comes in a plain, clear plastic tube with a soft, curved applicator. The serum itself looks slightly cloudy white in the tube but goes on clear. The formula reminds me of a clear hair gel minus the stickiness. Initially it was kind of awkward for me to maneuver the applicator and I was wishing it would come in a mascara wand style. But as I started getting a hang of it, I think this may actually be a better design. Because you can “scoop” the product out to completely cover your lashes. The serum has no discernible smell and can be washed off easily with just water. I haven't experienced any discomfort or discoloration of my eyes throughout the 5 months of daily use.

L'Oréal suggests using this serum twice a day, a.m. and p.m. and it can be used under a mascara. However, I find that this serum makes your lashes clump together resulting in the “spider lash” look that I'm not so fond of. I have also tried putting it under mascara and that didn't end up well; my mascara would slide right off my lashes and smudge badly even before midday, so, no, never again.

Another thing about this serum is when it dries down, it leaves some “crusty” white residues that get everywhere – under and in your eyes. Not a very good sight and not very pretty. So I have been using it only at night before bed.

It is extremely easy to use – just sweep serum onto lashes from root to tip, like a mascara, then  glide the applicator tip along the upper lash line, like an eyeliner. Done.

I used to have extremely short, stubborn Asian lashes that would never hold a curl. And since I only use waterproof mascara, I was losing a lot of lashes everyday during the removing process. It was to the point that my lashes were so sparse and that's when I told myself I had to do something about it.

I wasn't really looking to lengthen my lashes per se. I just wanted something to “condition” and to promote “health” and this serum does just that. The results were definitely not immediate, however, I was starting to see the better version of my lashes just after 2 weeks.

I think this serum doesn't necessarily lengthen the lashes, but what it does is it protects and conditions. It significantly improves the overall health of the existing lashes. Once they are healthy and shiny, they won't fall out, and they start to grow optimally. I can't tell you how happy I am to not see any lash loss anymore when I remove my mascara. And on top of that, they look so much healthier, shinier, and a lot fuller than before. And now they are holding a curl like nobody's business!

I have been using the serum on my lower lashes also but the results so far were not as impressive. They are definitely getting longer but not particularly fuller. I also swipe a thin coat over my eyebrows as well and while the hair seems to get somewhat thicker, I didn't see any major improvement worth mentioning.

The only con I have with this product is not the serum itself, but the packaging. The applicator does not reach down to the bottom of the tube! So you end up wasting maybe 10% of the product. But since it is such a cheap alternative to other methods, it is a totally negligible factor.

So in plain English, this serum does work. You just have to be patient and persistent. I will keep repurchasing this product because it does what I need it to do and better. Definitely thumbs up for me!
