I must have been living under a rock all these years because I have just discovered what could be considered the best concealer of our time! OK, I am exaggerating a bit here but seriously, if you are a concealer junkie, you have to try this one! :)
I was introduced to MAC Pro Longwear Concealer when I was at a MAC counter picking up my favorite facial mist (MAC Mineralize Charged Water Skin Hydrating Mist). I was looking for a heavy duty concealer that I can use to hide my blemishes, redness, acne scars, discoloration, and under eye circles. I thought she was going to laugh at me because surely no such thing exists! But she actually went behind the counter, grabbed this concealer (in NC30, which matches my current skin perfectly!), and started applying it on different areas of my face. And at that moment, I realized why this product is such a cult favorite! Because it really does cover e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g!
MAC Pro Longwear Concealer is a full-coverage concealer with a thick and creamy consistency. It is thick but it spreads really well and is super easy to blend. I like to apply it with my fingers because the warmth from the fingers helps “melt” the product into the skin. I dab it in an upside down triangle shape under my eye and blend outward and downward to the side of my nose. I gently and carefully pat down the product until everything is blended right in with my skin. Sometimes I will follow with a small fluffy brush (I like Real Techniques Setting Brush) to diffuse any uneven edges. A damp Beautyblender (especially the mini one) works well, too, if you want a truly seamless skin-like finish.
Since it dries down and sets to a natural matte finish, setting is not necessary but being an oily girl, I always set my base makeup. These days I like to use Benefit Hello Flawless! Custom Powder Cover-up; the combination of the concealer and this powder is the bomb! It gives such a beautiful, super smooth finish that I often skip foundation altogether!
I am amazed every time at how good it makes my under eye area looks. Not only does it brighten, it also smooths out fine lines to give an illusion of youthful and flawless skin. It is thick but it never feels heavy, cakey, or drying, given that you apply it on well-moisturized skin (it can be drying and accentuates dry patches if applied on completely dry, un-moisturized skin). It doesn't even crease or lose its coverage later on in the day!
It is excellent for covering redness, too! I have this persistent redness around my nose that even my all-time favorite Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer sometimes cannot keep up. This concealer keeps everything under control and I don't have to worry about the redness seeping through again.
Besides covering up imperfections, I also like to apply it on the center of my forehead and on my chin to brighten and awaken my complexion. :D
One thing that I'm not too crazy about this concealer, though, is the packaging! It comes in a glass vial with a pump dispenser. Looks nice and very hygienic alright, but for the life of me, I cannot control the amount it dispenses no matter how carefully I try not to put too much pressure on the pump! It always dispenses too much! I end up wasting the precious product every time as a result but lately I have learned to keep the leftover in a small airtight jar so that I can use it again the next day. It also has this strong smell of something that I can't quite put my finger on what it is but it reminds me of alcohol. It dissipates quickly upon application, though.
Do you use concealer on a regular basis? What consistency do you prefer?
