Sephora On The Fringe Studded Lash Curler

It is obvious this eyelash curler from Sephora was designed to be the most comfortable eyelash curler you will ever use.

The soft, thick silicone curling pad, the rubber padding on the handles, and it even comes with not one, but two replacement rubber pads! But somehow, I don't find this to be as good as my Shu Uemura or Chanel or Shiseido curler (these three are my staples). The Sephora one doesn't seem to curl my straight Asian lashes the way I hope it would. Well, it doesn't seem to curl at all. It seems like all it does is “crimping” instead of “curling” and therefore leaving my lashes shaped like the letter “L” (I hope you know what I mean!). And it only gets worse when I start curling at the base, then the middle part, and at ends of lashes. Imagine multiple L's!

I also find the rubber padding on the handles to be too thick – it gets uncomfortable and awkward every time trying to fit my thumb and index finger through the handles. I'm not sure if it's because of this reason of not being able to hold it comfortably that makes the curling experience less than perfect. The opening doesn't seem to be wide enough either, I usually end up missing a few lashes and we all know how not very pretty that looks. The thick curling pad feels undoubtedly very gentle to the lashes but I don't need gentle at this point, I need a strong clamp so there, another unfavorable point. I tried blow drying the curler for a few seconds to warm up the pad and while it helped to curl my lashes a little better, it just didn't seem worth the extra effort when I could do without with my other curler.

The shiny silver studded details on the black curler are nice and chic but unfortunately, it doesn't perform well on me. One thing that is good about this curler, though – it doesn't pinch or pull no matter how hard and strong you squeeze the handles.

I've read reviews where a lot of people swear by it, so maybe it really depends on the eye shape, the texture of the lashes, and personal preference? I will probably give it to a friend to try and I'll report back if it works well for her. If so, then it's probably just me! :)
