This post is going to be really long and photo-heavy. Please understand my love for close-up photography especially for pretty things, like Tom Ford lipsticks. :) What you are about to see is what's in my collection right now and it is still expanding so do keep checking back for more swatches from time to time. There is no stopping to this, once you own one, you will only want more. It's a true addiction! (And consider this a warning as these lipsticks come with a hefty price tag.)
Tom Ford Lip Colors come in a dark mahogany brown with gold trimming square tube. The top of the cap is extremely reflective (so much so that I've used it as an emergency mirror) and has Tom Ford initials engraved on it. The packaging is weighty and sturdy. I think the most famous characteristic of Tom Ford lipstick tubes besides the immaculate design itself is the “click” sound when snapping the cap close, it sounds just like when you close a luxury car door! :)
These lipsticks have a wonderful, soft vanilla scent that's not overpowering and does not linger. The texture is creamy, incredibly pigmented and full, opaque coverage can be achieved in just one swipe. They glide on with a soft touch and leave a satin finish with a subtle sheen on the lips. The formula is so lightweight and smooth without slip, it's such a pleasure to apply and feels very comfortable to wear. For paler shades, I like to apply straight from the tube and blend out with a lip brush but for brighter shades, I just dab the color to the center part of my lips and blend out using a fingertip for a natural-looking finish.
Soja seed extract, Brazilian murumuru butter and chamomilla flower oil are the “exotic” ingredients in the Private Blend collection and although these lipsticks may not be the most moisturizing, they are certainly not drying. On my lips, they are hydrating enough that I don't feel the need to layer a lip balm under. Staying power is remarkable as well, I get an average of 4-5 hours of wear with minimal eating and drinking for darker shades and may be an hour or two less for paler shades. The formula dries down to a matte finish as the hours progress but my lips continue to feel soft and not at all drying. I didn't notice any of the colors settling into fine lines nor any streaky, patchy application.
In this review, I will arrange the color by shade intensity, starting from the palest nude, to medium pink, to bright bold colors. There is a sticker at the bottom of the tube to indicate the shade color and number. All Tom Ford lipsticks are currently made in Belgium and some colors are continent-exclusive such as the #22 Forbidden Pink which is Asia-exclusive (full review here).
- 13 Blush Nude – soft nude beige that doesn't make you look washed out
- 12 Nude Vanille – very pale peachy pink that I think will be more flattering on fair skin tones
- 01 Spanish Pink – brightening peachy pink beige, very versatile color that would go with any makeup look
- 07 Pink Dusk – neutral pink with a touch of mauve/rose undertone, definitely a “my lips but better” shade
- 22 Forbidden Pink (Asia-exclusive) – light coral pink that is almost identical to Spanish Pink but is more coral than peach and is slightly lighter
- 08 Flamingo – bright medium pink that's surprisingly very wearable
- 19 Aphrodisiac – blue-based magenta and this one leaves a soft stain!
- 09 True coral – bright red-based coral, such a bold color, definitely not for a color shy!
These lipsticks are truly luxurious and are my absolute favorites. They are simply perfection. The price is definitely steep but if you are looking to indulge, here's one you won't regret. I only purchase mine on a special day, one at a time so it took me quite a while to build the collection. If you are intrigued, I suggest you start off with a more natural color that would suit any occasion such as Spanish Pink or Pink Dusk and once you get the feel of it, you can start exploring more bolder shades such as Flamingo or True Coral, or you may even want to go bolder into the red zone of Scarlet Rouge or Crimson Noir (which by the way are next on my list). I'm totally in love head over heels with these lipsticks, and without a doubt, would recommend them to anyone in a heartbeat. :)
