YSL Blush Voluptè Heart Of Light Powder Blush is my latest obsession! I purchased it as soon as I published my On My Radar August 2014 post and it took every ounce of me to not write a review right away. I wanted so badly to show you how beautiful this piece of luxury is but I had to use it extensively first to be able to write an honest review. And today I think I'm ready to share my thoughts with you! Warning: if you have a soft spot for luxurious blushes, this post is going to be very dangerous to your wallet! ;D
The YSL Blush Voluptè Heart Of Light Powder Blush comes in a reflective gold square compact with the brand's logo on the front. The compact is made of plastic so it is pretty lightweight but still feels sturdy in hand. Inside you will find a mirror and a small blush brush. The brush bristles are soft, non-scratchy, and will come in handy on the go. I don't find it to be too terrible at applying the blush powder at all. In fact, with a little effort, I have been able to use it to apply the blush on my cheeks with beautiful results! Also included with the compact is a protective black velveteen pouch that opens from the side.
The Blush Voluptè combines two textures of blushes in one beautiful block design. The center part where the YSL logo is has a shimmery finish for a highlighting effect while the outer part has a matte finish for the blush effect.
The color I have is Light 03 (according to Sephora website; everywhere else this shade is referred to as “Parisienne“) which has a medium cool-toned pink with a strong hint of purple in the outer part (my gosh, it's SO beautiful!) and a light peachy pink with flecks of gold shimmer throughout in the center part. The powder has a lovely floral scent that I absolutely adore but it is noticeable only in the first few minutes of application.
It is easier to swirl both parts of the blush together and apply for a natural flush with luminous effect. However, you can use a small tapered blush brush such as the Shu Uemura 20 Brush to selectively pick up just the outer part for a shimmer-free application. Then, if desired, you can follow with a small brush such as MAC 188 or 224 to pick up just the shimmery shade and apply on top of the cheeks. I personally like to apply them together because I prefer my blush to have a hint of luminosity than being completely matte.
The Blush Voluptè powder is incredibly smooth and finely-milled. The outer matte part is creamy, silky, and applies beautifully on the skin without being patchy or chalky. The inner shimmery part does not feel as creamy but at least it doesn't feel gritty during application despite the high shimmer content.
I'd categorize the pigmentation of this blush as “sheer-to-medium“. It goes on really subtle but the intensity can be built with ease. In my opinion, it is practically impossible to overdo the application. It's one of those blushes that you can grab, apply, and go knowing that the end results will always be natural-looking and beautiful. I also really love the soft radiant effect it gives to my complexion whenever I wear it!
Light 03 is considered a “light” shade on my medium complexion so it doesn't stay on my skin as long as my other more pigmented blushes. I'd say about 4-5 hours at most before I notice some fading. However, the longevity depends greatly on how much you apply, your skin type, and whether you apply it on top of powder or foundation and powder (which normally extends the makeup wear time).
I hope you can see that slight hint of luminosity on my cheeks in the photo above! Notice how flattering it looks? I am just completely floored by the performance of this blush! :) On my lips is Tom Ford Aphrodisiac by the way, in case you're wondering! (❤ this shade!)
There is no doubt in my mind at this point that I'll be picking up more shades of the YSL Blush Voluptè Heart Of Light Powder Blush! In fact, Light 05 is next on my list. It is such a beautiful bright coral that I think will flatter my skin really well. YSL has been coming out with a lot of great makeup lately and I just couldn't be happier. I've always been interested in the line but nothing in the past had really stood out to me. This blush, however, changed everything! Now I'm interested in their powder, lipstick, and also foundation. But one at a time, though, right? ;D
What about you? Do you have a favorite makeup from YSL? Are you looking forward to trying this Blush Voluptè?
