After hearing so many rave reviews of the Rouge Volupté Shine, I finally caved. The reason I held off for so long was because none of the colors from the range really spoke to me. Of course, until I came across 19 Fuchsia in Rage! I had no idea this particular color was made popular by the famous Lisa Eldridge (see video) until I did some research for this post. Now that I have experienced it firsthand, I can see why she recommended it!
The packaging of YSL lipsticks is beyond stunning. It is one the most iconic and timeless designs I've ever seen. All the details that went into it, from the reflective gold tube to the brand's logo luxuriously and intricately carved over a vivid colored band that represents the color of the lipstick inside, not only is it so beautiful to look at, it is also very practical! The tube has a good substantial weight to it and the cap closes securely with a satisfying click. There is nothing not to love about the packaging! ♥
In terms of color, it is the strangest thing. I say this because while 19 Fuchsia in Rage appears to be a vivid grape purple-fuchsia color in the tube (the reason I bought it in the first place; its unique color), it actually reads a medium pink magenta on my lips (and arm swatches). The purple tinge does not come through at all on me, only the pink magenta base does. The gorgeous bright blue and pink shimmer seen in the tube are also absent once applied on my lips.
While I do like the translated pink magenta on me, I can't help but feel a bit let down. I really wish the color would stay true to the color I see in the tube. I will still wear it regularly because I love the formula but in terms of color, it isn't anything particularly special to me.
Speaking of formula, now that's something I heart! :)
What they say is true! The Rouge Volupté Shine formula is super moisturizing! The consistency is quite unique in the sense that it feels thin with translucent quality (almost like water) during application but since it is so pigmented, you get a full blast of color in one swipe. Normally for a lipstick this pigmented, you'd at least “feel” something on your lips, but not the case with the Rouge Volupté Shine at all. It's literally weightless!
It also glides on like butter. And not just regular butter, but melted butter! It is such a pleasure to apply although I see myself reaching for a lip brush to perfect the corners and cupid's bow from time to time especially when sharp application is needed. My lips feel instantly soft, smooth, and moisturized and the best part is that Fuchsia in Rage does not seem to emphasize lip imperfections at all. If anything, it seems to tame them instead! And did I mention the mango-scent? It's delicious!
Soon after application, the formula can feel a bit smudgy due to the slippery texture but it will quickly set to a stain-like finish with gorgeous luminous shine.
It is quite long-lasting for a “shine” formula as I can easily get a full 3 hours of wear before it starts to fade. The shine leaves my lips first, then the color fades evenly into a soft pink stain. My lips remains moisturized, though, and I find myself pressing my lips together throughout the day because the formula really makes them so soft! :)
While the color didn't turn out to be the purple I had hoped, I still do like the magenta pink it translates on me. It is the fun, pop-of-color type that brightens up my face and compliments most of makeup looks I wear. I can never have enough pink lipsticks after all!
The comforting and hydrating formula makes it a perfect lipstick to wear during colder months. I can already see myself picking out more colors from the range, except the next time I buy, I will thoroughly swatch the color both on my arm and lips to make sure that the color I'm getting is actually the color I see in the tube. :)
